In this role, you will prepare samples, develop and document the sample process, and conduct or assist in the testing of high-performance insulation and fire protection products. You will apply technical know-how to produce or modify products and build test assemblies. You may be involved in development, operation, application, and on-site or off-site installation and in testing of products.

What you’ll do:

  • Calculate, coordinate, and gather raw materials for the preparation samples or test assemblies.
  • Review and understand 2D drawings for product production and testing preparation. Preferred: ability to create 2D drawings by hand or using AutoCAD software.
  • Assist production in processes to ensure compliance with resulting design specifications.
  • Hands on work/cutting/design of products. Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Manually operate production equipment to produce product for insulation and fire protection projects.
  • Analyze engineering sketches, specifications, and related data and drawings to determine design factors such as size, shape, and arrangement of parts
  • Assigned a project and determine best path for completion with little supervision.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of Promat Inc. products, business practice of industries, a good working knowledge of standard insulation methods, basic understanding of fire testing, practices and competitive aspects of the marketplace.
  • Plan and schedule daily work activities and make the most effective use of time and expenses incurred in plant work
  • Sketch rough layouts and computes angles, weights, surface areas, dimensions, radii, clearances, tolerances, etc.
  • Coordinate activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling, and resolving technical design and test problems. Travel to tests sites within the United States and Canada for the preparation of test assemblies.
  • Direct integration of technical activities and products.
  • Perform other incidental and related duties as required and assigned
  • Communicate in clear, concise manner & manages conflict effectively.
  • Must be a team player with proven skills.

What you’ll bring:

  • An understanding of manufacturing methods and techniques.
  • Preferred: Associate degree in engineering or training in a vocational discipline (e.g. carpentry, HVAC, plumbing) … preferably mechanical or equivalent experience
  • Possess a mechanical aptitude and experience in working with mechanical components.
  • Attention to detail, initiative to self-learn design and technical methods, and ability to prioritize work and document task.
  • Ability to perform 2D, and 3D is a plus, design and modeling using industry standard software.
  • Willing to work off-hours as required during critical periods.
  • A non-compromising attitude to operating safely in the plant for the health and welfare of all associates.
  • English speaking.
  • Must have initiative, leadership abilities, and ability to acquire negotiation and sales skills; must have the ability to plan and organize work so each assignment can proceed in an orderly and expeditious manner.
  • Basic understanding of thermal insulation, fire protection, and heat transfer calculations is a plus.
  • Ability to travel in the US and Canada for fire testing.
  • Must have efficient computer skills.
