Position Overview
The Intake Mental Health Specialist at the Center for Child Counseling is responsible for implementing prevention and early intervention services in CFCC offices, Telehealth, and possibly the client’s home and/or community, providing mental health consultations, support groups, parent/caregiver workshops, and referring/working with community partners. The Intake Mental Health Specialist will work closely with the intake department, admin team, directors, care coordinators, and therapists.
The major focus of this position includes conducting prescreening intakes, screening tools, consents, and supporting Front Desk Coordinators. This role will utilize a strength-based perspective to help families strengthen and manage the quality of their lives by engaging the family, advocating on their behalf, initiating change agent activities, teaching problem-solving skills, modeling productive behaviors, and assisting in the successful completion of child and family developmental milestones.
Position operates in a hybrid work environment, requiring remote work from home with periodic in-person attendance for meetings, trainings, team collaboration and support group facilitation.
1. Primary Duty: Delivery of Services
- Provide 25 hours of direct client contact and support on a weekly basis.
- Complete informed prescreening intake, screening tools, consents, schedule assessments, and mental health consultations using collaborative documentation and a trauma-informed equity lens.
- Run psychoeducational groups that may be held during evening hours (in-person and via Teams or Zoom).
- Provide support, guidance, modeling, and psychoeducation to children and their families.
- Utilize measures for clinical practice and outcome-based treatment planning.
- Support and assist families with any intake or technical difficulties.
- Link the child and their family to appropriate agency and/or community services; assist the child and their families through the recommended services identified.
2. Primary Duty: Data and Administrative Tasks
- Enter all documentation into required databases. Maintain accurate and organized records in Valant, Webauthor, (CFCC’s Electronic Health Record Systems) Athena and CMIS.
- Complete all required paperwork and assessments for quality, timely, and comprehensive documentation of services to program funding and Medicaid standards and guidelines.
- Translate agency consent forms, tip sheets and/or trainings into other languages (if applicable).
- Prepare technology required for delivering virtual groups, trainings, and services.
3. Primary Duty: Complete Non-Direct Services
- Actively participate in weekly team meetings, and/or individual, and training as required.
- Collaborate closely with outside providers including pediatricians, nurses, teachers, and school administrators, to meet the needs of families.
- Identify support services needed for successful discharge and transition of clients to other levels of care.
- Complete staff training as required by agency, and funders.
- Respond to emails in accordance with CFCC policy.
- Ensure timely responsiveness and ongoing engagement on CFCC’s communication platforms such as Teams, email, text, and phone.
Qualifications:
- Highly organized, self-motivated, reliable, and flexible (including willingness to work nontraditional hours, including evenings).
- Openness to learning, capacity for self-reflection, and eagerness to participate in reflective supervision.
- Proficiency in a second language (Spanish) is highly valued.

Education and Experience:
Minimum Educational Requirement: Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, or related field.
- Preferred Educational Requirement: BA or BSc
- Experience:
- At least 2 years of experience working with culturally diverse children and families.
- Experience with structured groups and parent/professional education groups/trainings is preferred.
- Knowledge of parent education, parent-child relationships, and individual, family, and community-level risk factors (e.g., poverty, homelessness, maternal depression, domestic violence, substance abuse, teen parenthood).
- Knowledge of child development and developmental stages (0-17)
- Familiarity with community-based services and supports in the service area.
- Experience working in home and community-based settings with vulnerable populations of diverse cultures and ethnicities.
