The Interim Assistant Director of Athletics reports directly to the Interim Director of Athletics. The Interim Assistant Director of Athletics collaborates with the Interim Director of Athletics to develop a vision for the athletic program of the school and maintains and oversees tasks that support program development. The athletic program is built on progressive education principles with the goal of meeting the needs of all student athletes in an atmosphere of inclusion and positive competition.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES/TASKS

  • Supports the Interim Director of Athletics in all aspects of Athletics programming.
  • Assists in the development, implementation, and monitoring of standards of professional conduct and education for the athletics staff and coaches.
  • Creates and maintains systems to coordinate day-to-day operations for coaches and student-athletes, including but not limited to setting up and breaking down the gym, confirming games, scheduling transportation and athletic events, and coordinating referees.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Athletics to design and facilitate programming to foster coach and student-athlete development, community involvement, and positive relationships with families.
  • Collaborates with the Communications Department to translate the mission and values of the Athletics Department through email outreach, website content, school publications, and school-wide and department-specific events.
  • Coordinates and manages equipment and uniforms, including tracking inventory and preparing orders for new equipment and uniforms.
  • Supports the hiring process for coaches.

SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS

After-school, evening, and weekend availability.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in related field
  • Teaching experience, preferably in a progressive school environment
  • Previous head coaching experience
  • Demonstrated excellence in organization, management, and interpersonal skills

QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED

  • Previous experience in athletic administration
  • Previous experience as head coach in two or more sports
  • Previous experience with leadership development
  • Previous experience with explicit diversity and equity-based work

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK REQUIREMENTS

The employee is required to stand, walk, sit, run, handle athletic equipment, talk, and hear while performing the duties of this job. Employee must occasionally lift/move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
