6 Henson Tower is a general medical/surgical unit that cares for patients within Endocrinology, Pulmonology, and Neurology/seizure patient specialties. It is a 25-bed unit. All patient rooms are private. The unit is shaped like a racetrack with three nurses’ stations. There is a medication room at each station, as well as two clean utility rooms, two nutrition rooms, and two soiled utility rooms. We have a playroom and a treatment room for patients to use as well. Patients range in age from neonates to 18 years. We occasionally treat young adults.
Intermediate Care Registered Nurses provide advanced illness management and health promotion for patients who require intermediate acuity of care. Intermediate Care Registered Nurses utilize the nursing process and knowledge of scientific principles to provide safe, high quality, comprehensive, family-centered and age appropriate nursing care for patients requiring high acuity management. Intermediate Care nurses provide patient and family education and advocate for their needs. Intermediate Care Nurses coordinate patient care with nonprofessional personnel as necessary.
