Intermodal / Drayage Trucking Dispatcher

We are seeking a proactive and experienced Drayage Dispatcher to join our team. In this critical role, you will be the central point of contact for our drivers and customers, ensuring the smooth and timely movement of freight containers. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment and has a deep understanding of rail port and intermodal operations. Key responsibilities

  • Dispatching and Routing: Coordinate the daily dispatching and routing of drayage drivers for pickups and deliveries at ports, rail ramps, and customer facilities. Ensure rail equipment is outgated and ingated in a safe timely and compliant manner.
  • Communication: Serve as the primary communication link between drivers, customers, and internal staff, providing real-time updates on load status and ETA.
  • Appointment Setting: Schedule and manage appointments for deliveries, for empty pickup/terminations and import/export loads.
  • Problem-Solving: Proactively address and resolve issues such as traffic delays, port congestion, customs holds, and equipment breakdowns and other isssue during daily operations.
  • Documentation: Prepare, process, and maintain accurate records of shipping documents, freight bills, and invoices. Provide final charges to the clients once the load is completed.
  • Price Quoting: Provide detailed pricing quotes to various quote requests for prospective clients. Ensure capacity is utilized fully at most profitable and effecient manner.
  • Compliance: Ensure all dispatching operations and driver activities comply with local, state, federal, and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
  • Cost Management: Monitor and track costs, including per diem and demurrage, and take actions to minimize expenses.
  • Performance Monitoring: Use GPS and dispatching software to monitor driver progress and optimize routes for maximum efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Proven work experience as a drayage, port, or intermodal dispatcher.
  • Indepth knowledge about Rail Yards/Depot operations around the Chicago ara.
  • Industry Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of port and rail terminal websites, procedures, and terminology.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient with transportation management software (TMS), GPS systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to multitask effectively.
  • Adaptability: Ability to stay calm under pressure and adapt to last-minute changes.
  • Availability: Flexibility to remain available during off hours or weekends when needed.
  • Problem-Solving: Exceptional critical thinking and analytical skills for quick decision-making.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; an associate's or bachelor's degree in logistics or a related field is a plus.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $55,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
