We provide retirement, disability, and death benefits to eligible County employees and their beneficiaries, and collect, deposit, invest, and manage retirement funds collected from the County, outside districts, and County employees.The Los Angeles County Employees Retirement Association (LACERA) Internship Program is a continuous, as needed, opportunity for both highly motivated and aspiring undergraduate and graduate interns. This is an exciting opportunity for students to gain paid experience and on-the-job training at a government entity. LACERA is an independent governmental entity, separate and distinct from Los Angeles County.As one of the largest county retirement systems in America, LACERA offers potential Interns the opportunity to work in a variety of fields through each LACERA Division. Examples of each Division and the type of work done will be described in detailed. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
OVERVIEW BY DIVISIONInterns may be assigned a variety of assignments or projects as designated by Management. There are a variety of Divisions that a candidate may express their interest in. Below are descriptions of each Division: Disability Retirement ServicesThe Disability Retirement Services Division is responsible for investigating, evaluating, and making recommendations to the Board of Retirement for adjudicating disability retirement applications submitted by active, retired, and deferred members of LACERA. Disability Retirement Services is seeking an intern to assist the Disability Retirement Services (DRS) division with enhancing its data analytics and reporting capabilities. The intern will play a key role in developing advanced analytics to improve process efficiency, identify bottlenecks, and provide forecasting and trend prediction for case inventory, service levels, and overall operations.Information Security OfficeThe InfoSec team works with all LACERA staff to define security requirements, increase enterprise awareness, and investigate security issues.The intern will be working on the knowledge management and implementation of the information security program (IT GRC) projects. Member Services The mission of the Member Services division is to provide world-class service in a positive, supportive, professional, and equitable manner through any channel the member chooses. We will strive at all times to provide accurate, clear, and common-language explanations of all plans, plan options, purchases, purchase options, and retirement-related issues. We will strive to function as a team working together to fulfill our assigned mission of servicing members. Member Services is dedicated to continually improving the member experience across all channels. The division is on furthering member education, supporting LACERA’s strategic plan and building a Superior Member Experience.The Intern will assist and gain experience in different units of Member Services. In the Member Services Center, the Intern would assist with scheduling, workshops, calendars, and office support. In the Member Services Care unit, they would assist with tracking process and SharePoint support. There is an opportunity within the division to support the specialist with their work. The Intern would engage in a series of hands-on projects that do not require knowledge of CERL, PEPRA, or any other member benefits information.SystemsThe Systems Division (Systems) oversees all aspects of information technology for LACERA. Systems provides technology support services through the infrastructure team, creates innovative and secure application solutions through the Business Solutions team, and manages organizational technology projects that provide solutions to business operational pain paints and systems gaps in efficiencies. Systems is vital in the development and maintenance of mission-critical computer applications.The System Division is seeking five Interns: two for the Business Solution unit, two for the Infrastructure Unit, and one for the Project Management Office. The Business Solutions Interns will work on optical character recognition (OCR) and Business Intelligence (BI) initiatives.The Infrastructure Interns will join the engineering team to support and learn about LACERA's onsite data center.The Project Management Office Intern will participate in ongoing projects as a junior project manager. The objective for our Interns is to provide meaningful work experiences for Information Technology students, gain energetic resources with fresh perspectives for short-term projects, and identify qualified candidates for potential permanent position within our division.

Applicants will need not re-apply if still within the one (1) year timeframe.COMPENSATION: Interns will be given compensation based on their grade level at the time of assignment. Undergraduates will be assigned up to $25.00 per hour. Graduate students and above will be assigned up to $27.00 per hour. As this is not a permanent LACERA position covered under Civil Service Rules, Interns will not be employees of LACERA and will not be eligible for any LACERA employee benefits.
