Responsibilities:
The CalAmp Firmware Engineering Intern will help design, code, and document CalAmp telematics equipment. This engineering position will be working with industry leading mobile routers, GPS trackers and cellular equipment and will be directly responsible for adding software options, software modifications and improvements to CalAmp telematics and IoT devices. Will receive specific supervision as to objectives, approach, and results expected.

Responsible for assisting in the development of firmware and applications using programming languages such as Python, Perl, and C/C++ Interfaces with other members of the software development team, test engineers and field engineers. Individual is expected to work with a minimum of supervision towards a stated goal

Participate in firmware and automation script development projects

Maintain and support existing firmware and automation scripts

Develop Unit and Acceptance Tests, and assist in documenting clear, concise and thorough test procedures to support verification that the software satisfies all product requirements

Ensure firmware/scripts developed satisfies CalAmp’s quality standards, and is implemented in a timely and cost-effective manner

Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Must Haves

Will be local to Eden Prairie, MN in Summer 2026

Completed or in progress towards a Bachelor's or Master's degree (Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, etc.)

C/C++ programming knowledge

Python, Perl and JavaScript programming knowledge

Understanding of network communications and protocols (such as TCP/IP and BSD sockets)

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Analytical and strong problem-solving skills

Willingness and desire to be a team player
