Ventus is an entity within Digi, a Business Unit that’s an industry leader in IT networking innovations, leveraging technology to produce market-driving network solutions. Operating from over 20 years of experience and delivering secure enterprise class networks, Ventus develops cellular wireless and fixed line SD-WAN, Hybrid WAN, and Cellular WAN solutions for an expanding array of business connectivity applications.
This is an opportunity for a data-savvy, AI-literate intern to make an immediate impact on Digi's supply chain and inventory operations. You will work directly with the operations team and Product Management team to build AI-powered tools that transform how we forecast demand, manage inventory, and generate purchase orders. This is not a "get coffee" internship — you will own real projects with real business impact from day one.
What You Will Do
- Analyze 2+ years of historical order, shipment, and inventory data from NetSuite and internal systems to identify demand patterns, seasonality, and SKU velocity trends.
- Build AI/ML forecasting models (using Python, pandas, scikit-learn, or similar) that predict quarterly and monthly hardware inventory needs across Digi router product families.
- Develop automated tools that pull NetSuite opportunity pipeline data and translate win-probability-weighted pipeline into inventory demand signals.
- Create a reorder recommendation engine that factors in supplier lead times, safety stock thresholds, and forecasted demand to suggest optimal purchase order timing and quantities.
- Build dashboards and reporting tools that give operations and leadership real-time visibility into inventory health, forecast accuracy, and order status.
- Explore and prototype the use of LLMs and AI agents (e.g., Claude, GPT) for natural-language querying of supply chain data, anomaly detection, and automated reporting.
- Document all models, assumptions, and data pipelines so the tools are maintainable after the internship ends.
Who You Are and What You Bring
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Operations Research, or a related quantitative field.
- Strong Python skills with experience in data analysis libraries (pandas, NumPy, matplotlib/plotly).
- Exposure to or strong interest in machine learning (scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or similar).
- Comfort working with messy, real-world data — you know how to clean, join, and transform datasets.
- Familiarity with SQL and/or ERP systems (NetSuite experience is a plus, not required).
- Demonstrated use of AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, etc.) for coding, analysis, or productivity.
- Self-starter who can work with minimal supervision — you will have guidance and access to stakeholders, but you need to drive your own work.
- Strong communication skills — able to explain technical findings to non-technical stakeholders.
Desired But Not Required
- Experience with time-series forecasting (ARIMA, Prophet, LSTM).
- Familiarity with API integrations and data pipeline tools.
- Prior internship or project experience in operations, supply chain, or manufacturing.
- Experience with BI tools (Tableau, Power BI, Looker).
Location: Hybrid or remote, depending on candidate location (Hopkins, MN or Boise, ID preferred).
Work Authorization Requirement
Candidates must have valid authorization to work in the United States without the need for current or future employer sponsorship. While this is an internship role, Digi International and its companies are not able to provide visa sponsorship for internships, or subsequent potential full-time employment. As a result, we are unable to consider visa applications.
