The
IT Security Intern
provides entry-level support to the IT Security team while gaining hands-on experience in cybersecurity operations, defensive technologies, and secure system practices. Under the guidance of experienced security professionals, the intern assists with security-related projects, system monitoring activities, and process support that help maintain the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of Purdue Federal Credit Union’s systems and data. Purdue Federal Credit Union is dedicated to fostering the academic and professional growth of interns by providing valuable hands-on experience. Duties And Responsibilities
Security Operations & Project Support

Assist with cybersecurity projects and initiatives as assigned by the IT Security team.

Support deployment and configuration of security tools, applications, or solutions under supervision.

Perform assigned tasks related to system monitoring, vulnerability awareness, and defensive measures.

Collaborate with IT and Infrastructure teams as needed to support security objectives.
Systems Monitoring & Health Checks

Perform routine system and security health checks following established procedures.

Assist in reviewing logs, alerts, or reports as directed by security staff.

Escalate potential security issues or anomalies to appropriate team members.
Documentation, Research & Process Support

Document activities, procedures, and outcomes related to assigned security tasks or projects.

Research tools, technologies, or methods to support security improvements as directed.

Assist with maintaining security-related documentation and reference materials.
Learning & Professional Development

Learn and apply cybersecurity concepts, tools, and practices used by the Credit Union.

Participate in a structured, mentored learning environment focused on skill development.

Demonstrate professionalism, accountability, and curiosity while supporting the Security team.
Additional Requirements

Foundational understanding of information security or cybersecurity concepts.

Interest in pursuing a career in cybersecurity, information security, or IT risk management.

Basic familiarity with scripting, automation, or security tools (PowerShell preferred).

Ability to follow established procedures, document work accurately, and escalate issues appropriately.

Strong attention to detail and ability to research and apply new concepts.

Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities.

Clear verbal and written communication skills.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Exposure to CompTIA Security+ concepts.

Familiarity with PowerShell or basic scripting.
