Job Title: Intern, Policy and Advocacy

Organization: National Endowment for Financial Education

Reports To: Senior Manager, Policy and Advocacy

Location: Downtown Denver, Colorado

Type: Part-time Spring Internship

We are seeking a paid, part-time intern to assist with implementing our policy and advocacy strategy. This six-month position will run from February 2026 to July 2026. This internship is ideal for students seeking work experience in policy and advocacy, as well as for individuals looking to transition into this field.

What you will be responsible for in this position:

  • Assists with tracking and analysis of state and federal legislative, regulatory and other policy updates related to financial education issues through the PolicyNote platform and other tools as appropriate.
  • Drafts policy summaries and analyses to inform NEFE's understanding of issues and trends impacting financial education.
  • Helps develop content for NEFE one-pagers, talking points, issues briefs, related charts and visuals, infographics, and presentations to be used with internal or external audiences to advance NEFE policy activities.
  • Assists in the developing, proof-reading, fact-checking, and reviewing documents, presentations, and data analysis on behalf of the policy team.
  • Implements and coordinates projects as directed by Senior Manager, Policy and Advocacy.
  • Other duties as assigned.

We believe the following skills and experience will set you up for success in this position:

  • Experience with legislative tracking, review and policy analysis.
  • Demonstrated technical and scholarly writing skills including translating technical writing for non-research audiences.
  • Comfortable collaborating with a team as well as working alone.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications.
  • Ability to learn and utilize new software (e.g., policy tracking system).
  • Interest in financial education and financial well-being.
  • Commitment to equity and inclusion as organizational practice and culture.
  • Strong personal belief in the importance of research integrity (e.g., conducting, citing, and using it appropriately).
  • Junior, Senior, or currently enrolled in Master’s program from accredited university. Preferred degrees in Public Policy, Political Science, Public Administration, Business Administration and Management, or related field.

Physical/Mental Demands of the Job


Physical demands of this position are aligned with that of general office-based work, such as: regularly required to, stand, sit, talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work. Light to moderate lifting is required (e.g., 20lb box of paper).


Location and Hours


This position can be completed primarily remotely within the Denver Metro area. Hours are flexible, totaling approximately 20 hours/week.


Compensation


Compensation for this internship is $20/hour, paid semi-monthly on the 1st and the 15th.
