POSITION SUMMARY

The Social Content Intern supports the development and execution of social-first content that increases brand visibility, engagement, and cultural relevance across platforms. This role is designed for a creator with strong fluency in social media culture and an instinct for what resonates today. The intern will help fill a critical need for nimble, social-first content creation across the Toyota team and other accounts, producing quick-turn, culturally aware content with a clear creative point of view. Over the course of the program, the intern will also contribute to strengthening Burrell’s owned social presence by developing and executing social-first content that reflects the agency’s voice, values, and creative ambition.

The Summer Internship Program at Burrell Communications Group runs from June 1 through July 31. It is a paid opportunity at $18 per hour for up to 40 hours per week. Interns must be based in the city where it all began for Burrell, Chicago, IL, for the duration of the program. Please note that Burrell Communications Group is unable to provide visa sponsorship or support work authorization requests for these roles.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Concept, create, shoot, and edit social-first content across platforms with speed, clarity, and a strong creative point of view.

  • Produce culturally aware, quick-turn content designed specifically for social environments.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining content calendars, including ideation, scheduling, and organization of assets.
  • Monitor social platforms for trends, cultural moments, and engagement opportunities, bringing forward ideas that feel timely and relevant. Share these ideas with the internal Burrell Social Team on a set cadence.
  • Analyze social performance metrics and help synthesize insights to inform future content and optimization.
  • Collaborate closely with creative, strategy, and account teams to ensure social content aligns with broader campaign goals.
  • Take and apply feedback thoughtfully, iterating quickly while maintaining creative integrity.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Candidates should be entering junior or senior year of college.

  • Candidates should be pursuing a field of study related to marketing, communications, social media, digital media, or a related discipline.
  • Must be Chicago-based for the entirety of the program.
  • Strong writing/communication skills, strong familiarity with social platforms (TikTok, Instagram, Reddit, Substack, Twitch etc.), short form content editing such as Canva, CapCut, Adobe Suite (expert-level proficiency not needed)
  • Interest in digital storytelling and brand engagement.
  • Prior experience or proof of creating content for yourself or someone else (this includes other brands)
