The Ellis School, the only pre-kindergarten–grade 12 independent day school for girls in Pittsburgh, PA, is seeking a full-time, on-site Internal Communications Manager. Working closely with the Director of Marketing and Communications, and in collaboration with other key stakeholders, the Internal Communications Manager supports The Ellis School’s communications efforts by developing and managing content that informs, connects, and celebrates members of the Ellis community. This role is writing- and editing-heavy, requiring strong storytelling skills, attention to detail, and an ability to adapt tone and style across platforms. The manager will play a key role in producing news stories, profiles, and features for use across print and digital channels and will serve as the primary manager of internal and family communications.
Candidates for this role should have an understanding of how to identify target audiences and adapt messaging tone and content for the audience type as well as for various communication platforms.
This is an on-site, salaried position reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications.
Responsibilities:
Identify, research, write, and edit news stories, family profiles, and alumnae features for multiple platforms, including the Ellis website, email newsletters, and Ellis Magazine.
Manage content for Ellis Magazine—from story identification and interviews to writing, editing, and curating supporting materials (e.g., photos, captions, and sidebars).
Oversee the writing, editing, and scheduling of all internal email communications to parents and guardians, ensuring clarity, consistency, and timeliness.
Collaborate with faculty, staff, and the advancement team to surface stories that highlight student, family and alumnae experiences, faculty achievements, and community events.
Support content creation and updates for the School’s public-facing website and internal intranet platform.
Maintain editorial calendars and support the development of messaging strategies that align with institutional priorities and the School’s brand voice.
Assist with proofreading and editing of other school materials as needed.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, English, Marketing, or a related field.
5-7 years of experience in writing, editing, or communications—preferably in education, nonprofit, or journalism settings.
Exceptional writing, storytelling, and editing skills with a strong grasp of AP style and attention to tone, grammar, and accuracy.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and maintain a high standard of quality.
Familiarity with digital publishing tools (such as website content management systems and email marketing platforms).
Collaborative mindset with strong interpersonal and interviewing skills.

Willingness to work occasional extended hours, evenings, and weekends as needed.
