Consultant / Specialist – Infectious Disease
Job Summary:
Royal Bahrain Hospital is seeking a qualified and experienced Infectious Disease Physician to join our Internal Medicine Department. The physician will be responsible for diagnosing, treating, and managing infectious diseases, providing expert consultation, and supporting infection prevention and antimicrobial stewardship programs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Diagnose and manage infectious diseases including bacterial, viral, fungal, and parasitic infections
- Provide inpatient and outpatient consultations
- Manage complex infections such as sepsis, tuberculosis, HIV, and hospital-acquired infections
- Participate in infection control and prevention programs
- Lead antimicrobial stewardship initiatives
- Review microbiology reports and guide appropriate antimicrobial therapy
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
- Maintain accurate patient medical records
- Participate in hospital clinical governance and quality improvement programs
Minimum Qualifications:
- MBBS / MD degree from recognized medical institution
- Postgraduate qualification in Internal Medicine such as:
- Arab Board of Internal Medicine
- MRCP (UK)
- American Board of Internal Medicine
- Equivalent recognized qualification
- Fellowship or subspecialty certification in Infectious Disease
- Eligible for or holding NHRA license (National Health Regulatory Authority – Bahrain)
Experience Requirements: Specialist:
- Minimum 3–5 years experience in Infectious Disease
Consultant:
- Minimum 5–8+ years experience in Infectious Disease specialty
- Experience in hospital infection control and antimicrobial stewardship preferred
Skills Required:
- Strong expertise in diagnosis and management of infectious diseases
- Knowledge of infection prevention and control protocols
- Expertise in antimicrobial therapy and stewardship
- Excellent clinical judgment and decision-making skills
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Commitment to patient safety and quality care
Preferred Qualifications:
- Fellowship in Infectious Disease
- Experience in tertiary care or private hospital setting
- Experience in infection control committees
- Research or academic experience is an advantage
