Position Summary
ANSER is seeking a senior-level International Treaties & Agreements Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support the Air Force Deputy Chief of Staff for Strategic Deterrence and Nuclear Integration, International Treaties and Agreements Branch (AF/A10P). In this role, you will serve as a primary advisor to the government, providing critical guidance on Air Force requirements for implementing and complying with major international arms control treaties. You will support policy development, treaty compliance, and strategic analysis efforts impacting Air Force programs, operations, and national security objectives.
This position is based full-time onsite within the National Capital Region, including the Pentagon and Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling in Washington, DC.
Day to Day Responsibilities
- Monitor all Department of the Air Force (DAF) activities related to specific treaties, including providing historical background and context.
- Analyze current and future implications of treaties on DAF programs, capabilities, and operations, and develop official policy and position statements.
- Identify and alert leadership to potential treaty compliance issues, providing written and verbal recommendations to stakeholders ranging from senior Air Force leadership to base-level Treaty Compliance Officers (TCOs).
- Provide subject matter expertise on key international agreements, including the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (New START), Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), and Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), as well as other treaties as required.
- Assist in the development, analysis, and coordination of official DAF policy and position statements related to international treaties and agreements.
- Assess the impact of existing and proposed treaties on Air Force acquisition programs, operational capabilities, and strategic planning.
- Support Air Force-wide compliance efforts, including inspection readiness activities and treaty-related training programs.
- Develop, maintain, and deliver education and training materials for the Air Force arms control and treaty compliance community.
- Conduct research and prepare briefings, talking points, correspondence, and other executive-level materials for senior leader engagements.
Required Qualifications
- Active Top Secret (TS) security clearance with eligibility for Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI).
- Bachelor's degree in a related field such as international relations, political science, national security studies, or similar.
- 15+ years of experience in national security or a related field.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of relevant international treaties and agreements.
- Proven experience with treaty implementation and compliance activities, including associated systems and processes.
- Strong understanding of Air Staff, Joint Staff, and Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) structures and responsibilities related to treaty requirements.
- Familiarity with current policy issues related to international arms control treaties.
- Experience using the Arms Control Enterprise System (ACES) or similar treaty reporting databases.
- Proven ability to operate effectively in complex environments with multiple stakeholders.
- Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in international relations, political science, national security studies, or a related field.
