Schedule: Monday – Friday | 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM

Business Office Support Systems Inc is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Patient Access Representative to support operations at Homestead Hospital.

The primary responsibility of this role is interviewing patients to determine eligibility and qualify them for available benefits and assistance programs. The position requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle sensitive patient information while maintaining strict confidentiality and compliance with healthcare regulations.

Job Responsibilities

  • Interview patients to determine eligibility and qualification for available benefit programs.
  • Obtain and verify patient demographic and insurance information.
  • Verify authorizations, referrals, and notifications for procedures including diagnostics, surgeries, therapies, admissions, observations, and other treatments.
  • Assist patients with completing forms, applications, and questionnaires.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and documentation.
  • Coordinate with hospital departments to ensure proper patient processing and scheduling.
  • Maintain knowledge and comprehension of Medicaid requirements and Department of Children and Families (DCF) programs.
  • Provide professional, compassionate, and friendly customer service to patients, families, physicians, and hospital staff.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines including HIPAA, AHCA, EMTALA, and Medicaid coverage structure.
  • Perform general clerical and administrative duties as required.

Required QualificationsEducation

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of customer service experience required.
  • Healthcare or patient registration experience preferred.

Skills & Competencies

  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Clear and legible handwriting.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Compassionate and professional demeanor when interacting with patients.

Technical Skills

  • Experience with computer applications.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Teams.
  • Accurate typing skills.

Knowledge Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology and insurance processes.
  • Knowledge of regulatory guidelines including HIPAA, AHCA, EMTALA, and Medicaid coverage structure.
  • Knowledge and comprehension of Medicaid and Department of Children and Families (DCF) programs.

Language

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish or English/Creole) preferred.

  • Office setting located within Homestead Hospital.
  • Fast-paced healthcare environment requiring attention to detail and confidentiality.
