The parent company, headquartered in Michigan, operates eight manufacturing facilities across the Midwest and specializes in metal stamping and fabrication. Centralized support includes Human Resources, finance leadership (CFO oversight) and operational collaboration across plants.

Position Summary

The Inventory and Purchasing Manager will play a key role in strengthening operations by taking ownership of inventory management, procurement and material flow across the facility. This is a highly visible, hands-on role that directly supports production, shipping and receiving, and purchasing.

The primary focus of this position is to bring organization, accuracy and accountability to inventory systems while also handling purchasing duties, particularly supplier relationships and negotiation for steel and other key materials.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys building structure, improving processes and working closely with both office staff and the production floor.

Key Responsibilities

Inventory Management and Control (70-80%)

  • Establish and maintain strong inventory control processes (cycle counts, audits, stock organization)
  • Work closely with production and shipping and receiving to track material usage and movement
  • Maintain accurate inventory records int eh company’s system
  • Forecast material needs based on production schedules and trends
  • Identify slow-moving or obsolete inventory and recommend disposition strategies
  • Monitor and report inventory metrics such as stock levels, shortages and inventory turns
  • Improve storage layout, labeling and product flow across the plant

Purchasing and supplier Relations (15-20%)

  • Manage purchasing for raw materials, including steel and production supplies
  • Negotiate pricing, payment terms, and delivery schedules with established suppliers
  • Maintain supplier relationships and vendor performance tracking
  • Monitor lead times, place and follow up on purchase orders and expedite shipments as needed
  • Work with production planning to ensure material availability aligns with schedules

Collaboration and Process Improvement

  • Serve as the link between production, shipping and receiving and administrative teams
  • Train others on inventory processes and reinforce best practices
  • Support inventory counts and reporting for accounting purposes
  • Assist with process improvements that increase accuracy and reduce waste

Qualifications

  • 5 plus years fo experience in inventory control, materials management, purchasing or manufacturing operations.
  • Strong organizational and process-building skills
  • Experience negotiating with suppliers, confidence in discussing pricing and terms
  • Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment and spending time on the production floor
  • Working knowledge of inventory systems or ERP platforms
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Analytical mindset and ability to track data rends
  • Self-start able to take ownership and drive structure while working collaboratively with the team

We offer a competitive salary range in the 75K-90K range or commensurate with experience and a comprehensive benefit package. This is an on-site position, Monday to Friday normal business hours.
