The Inventory & Logistics Specialist supports SSC’s contract under supporting the Department of Energy’s Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) in Carlsbad, NM. This position ensures accurate stocking, replenishment, reporting, and documentation of critical fasteners, connectors, and fittings stored in underground mine environments. The role combines technical inventory management, professional client engagement, and physical site support to ensure seamless mission operations for DOE and SIMCO (Prime Contractor).


This is a hybrid position with most work from home and site visits to Carlsbad NM and surrounding sites.

Part Time: up to 30 hours a week at $17.50-$19.50/hour

Requirements:
  • U.S. Citizen with ability to pass DOE/WIPP background and site access requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook) for reports, invoices, and spreadsheets
  • Strong organizational, communication, and data management skills
  • Ability to independently manage workload from a remote/home office
  • Willingness and ability to travel 2–4 times per month to Carlsbad, NM for 1–2 days each trip
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform sustained physical work in underground mine environments
  • Must complete or pass a basic OSHA training course prior to site work
  • Must have valid DMV driver’s license and reliable transportation

Specific Duties

  • Conduct bi-monthly (and as needed) site visits to WIPP to restock, document, and report on inventory levels
  • Manage vendor orders, shipping coordination, and invoice reconciliation
  • Track bin stock levels, replenish to reorder points, and resolve stock discrepancies
  • Maintain accurate records and generate required reports, spreadsheets, and supporting documentation for SIMCO and DOE
  • Serve as SSC’s onsite representative, engaging professionally with DOE personnel, SIMCO supervisors, and vendor suppliers
  • Ensure compliance with DOE, SIMCO, and SSC safety protocols, including underground entry, PPE, and Job Hazard Analyses
  • Provide training to site users on bin access, restocking procedures, and documentation requirements
  • Support Quality Assurance (QA) efforts, submitting cut sheets, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and Approval/Variation Requests (AR/VR) as needed
  • Act as a professional presence and passive sales representative for SSC, identifying potential opportunities and representing company values


Minimum / Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years of logistics, warehouse, or supply chain experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Experience generating and maintaining inventory reports and invoices

Preferred:

  • Prior DOE, mining, or highly regulated environment experience
  • Familiarity with safety standards (MSHA, OSHA, DOE Worker Safety & Health)
  • Experience as an onsite company or vendor representative
  • Sales experience
  • Veteran preference
