About Our Investigative Reporter I Role:

The Investigative Reporter I will support the development of compelling investigative stories by gathering and verifying facts, conducting interviews, and researching public records. This entry-level role is designed for individuals who are eager to develop their skills in investigative journalism and contribute to high-quality true crime storytelling.

What You’ll Do:

• Deliver world-quality, edge-of-your-seat storytelling to our fans.



• Encourage, participate in, and enable advocacy pertaining to our stories.


• Conduct research using public records, interviews, and digital sources to gather accurate information.


• Verify facts, ensuring all claims are accurate and represented fairly.


• Work under close supervision, receiving guidance on more complex investigative projects.


• Submit FOIA requests and research public data, developing a deeper understanding of legal and ethical considerations in investigative journalism.


• Develop and maintain sources within key subject areas.


• Assist in vetting cases for potential selection and provide research support when appropriate.


• Participate in writing, fact-checking, and refining scripts to meet contemporary standards.



• Collaborate with writing and research teams to maintain internal guidelines and best practices.

What You Will Bring to the Table:

• 0-3 years of experience in investigative reporting or journalism.



• Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field, or equivalent experience.


• Basic understanding of investigative journalism practices and techniques.


• Strong research and analytical skills, with a keen eye for detail.


• Comfortable soliciting information and conducting research over the phone.


• Ability to write clearly, concisely, and accurately under deadlines.


• Interest in covering local or regional stories; familiarity with true crime or similar genres is a plus.



• Willingness to learn and develop storytelling, fact-checking, and reporting skills.
