Position Summary

The Investments Analyst will be responsible for underwriting, financial modeling, supporting acquisitions and asset management efforts, performing economic and market research, and assisting with project management tasks. The Investments team works closely with our Development & Construction and Finance teams and should be comfortable in collaborative environments. The ideal candidate has experience and/or demonstrated interest in the real estate field and has strong quantitative, analytical, and communication skills. The candidate must be a highly motivated self-starter, have the ability to work both independently and in a team environment, and thrive in an entrepreneurial and fast-paced company culture. Employee home office would be San Francisco, but would be required to work with and frequently travel to other JMA offices and projects.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Underwriting potential acquisitions, including performing due diligence and conducting market research
  • Financial modeling of cash flows and deal structures
  • Interface with financial partners, lenders, lawyers, brokers, and other market contacts to obtain information pertinent to pursuit efforts and existing assets
  • Assisting in financial analysis and management of existing assets
  • Participating in meetings with property managers and capital partners
  • Preparing presentation materials for internal and external meetings while having a key participation role
  • Collecting, analyzing, and presenting market information, including recent sales
  • Working with other team members to accomplish tasks under time pressure
  • Ability to grow within the firm by achieving results

Skills & Competencies

  • BS/BA required. Major in business, economics, finance, CS, math, or accounting preferred
  • Previous work, internship, or coursework experience in quantitative fields, including business, finance, IT, or accounting
  • One year of relevant full-time work experience required
  • Some experience in real estate is preferred, but not necessary
  • Strong quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Experience working with quantitative data and a desire to become proficient with database and analytical tools
  • Experience with financial modeling or previous coursework using Excel, and the ability to grasp fundamental finance concepts
  • Experience working with financial and operating statements is preferred
  • Experience with development and renovation projects, and some understanding of the construction process and job cost accounting, is a plus
  • Good organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and multitask
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to present analytical information
  • Self-starter and strong work ethic with willingness to work in a demanding, highly focused, and collaborative environment
  • Sense of personal accountability and strong desire to make a difference

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $83,615.37 - $100,698.08 per year
