IOP: In-Office Phlebotomist for Medical Office
Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate In-Office Phlebotomist (IOP) to join our healthcare team. In this role, you will perform blood and urine collection procedures in a medical office setting, ensuring accurate specimen collection and providing a positive patient experience. You will also be responsible for preparing samples, including centrifuging blood specimens, and ensuring timely drop-off at the nearest FedEx location for laboratory processing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform venipunctures, capillary blood draws, and urine collections to obtain high-quality specimens.
- Verify patient identification and ensure all required paperwork and consent forms are accurately completed.
- Centrifuge blood samples according to laboratory guidelines to prepare them for shipment.
- Safely package all specimens (blood and urine) and drop them off at the nearest FedEx location each day.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, always following infection control and safety protocols.
- Record patient information accurately in electronic health records or paper forms.
- Provide excellent patient care by explaining procedures clearly, answering questions, and easing any patient anxieties.
- Adhere to established protocols for specimen handling, labeling, and documentation to ensure compliance with laboratory and regulatory standards.
- Maintain a professional, courteous, and empathetic demeanor with patients, staff, and other healthcare professionals.
- Stay current on industry best practices and standards in phlebotomy and specimen collection.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program.
- Active phlebotomy certification (e.g., ASCP, NPA, or equivalent).
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Minimum of two years of phlebotomy experience, preferably in a healthcare or clinical setting.
- Experience with urine specimen collection preferred.
- Proficiency in blood collection techniques, urine collection standards, safety practices, and specimen preparation procedures.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with patients of all backgrounds.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow strict protocols.
- Must pass a background check.
Working Conditions:
- 1099 Contractor opportunity.
- Must have a reliable vehicle for daily FedEx drop-offs.
- Comfortable working in an office environment with a diverse patient population.
Pay:
- $25 per hour.
- Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm.
