IST Instructional Support Assistant

Germanna Community College is a public, open access institution of higher education in the Virginia Community College System. Germanna Community College is centrally located in Fredericksburg, VA between Washington D.C. and Richmond and between the Blue Ridge mountains and the Chesapeake Bay. Full of history, the area offers a community rich with diversity, the arts, technology, vineyards, hiking, canoeing/kayaking, and many other activities.

The IST Instructional Assistant will provide academic support to students enrolled in all courses leading to a degree in IST Cybersecurity, IST Networking, and Computer Science Programs, as well as all certification programs within these majors. The IST Instructional Assistant will be responsible for meeting with students on-campus and online during tutoring appointments. The incumbent will also lead weekly focused Supplemental Instruction (SI) study groups and provide instructional assistance to students during workshops for exam reviews or special projects. The IST Instructional Assistant will maintain a current knowledge of IST curricular matters and trends in IST remediation to ensure that IST tutoring at Germanna adheres to best practices and national standards. Other responsibilities include the development of IST instructional support resources. Furthermore, the incumbent will develop innovative means of providing academic support to students enrolled in the Cybersecurity Program throughout the year, including workshops to prepare them to earn certifications. This is a part-time position of 1000 hours per year or 20 hrs/wk.
