IT Business Analyst – Job DescriptionOverview

The IT Business Analyst acts as the bridge between business stakeholders and technical teams, ensuring technology solutions meet business needs. The role involves gathering requirements, analyzing processes, defining specifications, and supporting the design and implementation of IT systems.

Key Responsibilities1. Requirements Gathering & Analysis

  • Work with business stakeholders to understand business goals, processes, and challenges.
  • Conduct interviews, workshops, surveys, and document analysis to gather detailed requirements.
  • Translate business needs into clear functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Create user stories, use cases, acceptance criteria, and process flow diagrams.

2. Solution Design Support

  • Collaborate with technical teams (developers, architects, QA) to ensure requirements are understood.
  • Evaluate proposed solutions for alignment with business needs.
  • Participate in system design reviews and provide business context.
  • Support the creation of prototypes, wireframes, and workflow documentation.

3. Business Process Improvement

  • Analyze existing processes and identify opportunities for optimization or automation.
  • Document "as-is" and "to-be" processes.
  • Recommend improvements that enhance efficiency, quality, or user experience.

4. Project & Stakeholder Management

  • Serve as the primary point of contact between business teams and IT.
  • Manage stakeholder expectations and communicate project status, risks, and issues.
  • Assist in developing project plans, timelines, and resource requirements.

5. Testing & Quality Assurance

  • Develop test scenarios and assist in test planning.
  • Support user acceptance testing (UAT) and validate that solutions meet requirements.
  • Identify and document defects, and work with technical teams on resolution.

6. Implementation & Support

  • Assist with system rollouts, training materials, and user training.
  • Provide post-implementation support and help troubleshoot issues.
  • Ensure ongoing alignment between IT systems and business goals.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Business Administration, Computer Science, or related field.
  • 2–5+ years of experience in business analysis, IT consulting, or related role.
  • Strong understanding of SDLC (Agile, Scrum, or Waterfall).
  • Proficiency in requirements gathering and documentation.
  • Experience with process modeling tools (e.g., Visio, Lucidchart).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Experience with ERP, CRM, or other enterprise systems.
  • SQL skills for data analysis.
  • Knowledge of business intelligence/reporting tools.
  • BA certifications (CBAP, CCBA, ECBA, PMI-PBA).
  • Experience working in an Agile environment.
