IT Clinical Data Specialist

Position Summary

The Clinical Data Specialist supports the organization’s clinical quality, regulatory, and performance-improvement initiatives by designing, maintaining, and analyzing clinical data systems. This role gathers, validates, and interprets clinical and operational data to provide insights that drive improved patient care, organizational effectiveness, and regulatory compliance. The Clinical Data Specialist collaborates closely with clinical teams, IT, and leadership to ensure high-quality data practices and meaningful reporting.

Essential Job Functions/Accountabilities

- Designs, builds, and maintains clinical quality and operational databases

- Performs data extraction, transformation, and validation to ensure accuracy, consistency, and reliability

- Develops and tests new clinical measures, metrics, and data-collection methodologies

- Identifies automation opportunities and workflow enhancements to improve data capture and reporting processes

- Queries databases and performs complex analyses to support regulatory reporting, registry reporting, quality initiatives, and operational decision-making

- Creates dashboards, reports, and visualizations for clinical teams, leadership, and external regulatory bodies

- Conducts trend analysis to identify patterns, variations, and opportunities for clinical improvement

- Works with organization to understand data needs, clinical workflows, and organizational priorities

- Communicates analytical findings in a clear, actionable, and accessible manner tailored to end users

- Participates in the development of new quality initiatives by providing data-driven insights

- Ensures data management processes meet regulatory, accreditation, and organizational requirements

- Supports audits, compliance reviews, and quality assurance checks as needed

- Performs assignments with increasing complexity as experience grows

- Provides support for special projects

- All other duties not specifically assigned

Position Requirements

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Health Informatics, Public Health, Data Science, Information Systems, Nursing, or a related field required.

Experience

Clinical Data Analyst level: 2–4 years of related experience in clinical data, quality, analytics, or health information systems.

Technical Skills:

Working knowledge of clinical data standards, healthcare terminology, and quality reporting requirements.

Experience with BI tools (Power BI, Tableau)

Hands-on SQL experience, including complex queries and data validation

Experience with EHR systems, data warehouses, or clinical quality-reporting platforms.

Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to communicate complex information to non-technical stakeholders.

Attention to detail and commitment to data integrity.

Certifications/Licenses/Registrations:

CAHIMS or CPHIMS preferred

Schedule: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
