IT Generalist II

As a valued member of our team, the IT Generalist II at our ready-mix concrete company will oversee planning, implementation, and administration of IT systems across both plant and office environments. This role requires integrity, accountability, and a proactive approach to solving technical and business challenges. You will collaborate with end-users to diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and network issues, support IT initiatives, and maintain detailed documentation. This position also requires occasional physical activity, such as climbing ladders and lifts at plant locations.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide on-site and remote technical support for hardware, software, and network issues.
  • Manage and maintain IT systems, including servers, workstations, and network devices.
  • Perform routine system updates, patches, backups, and security measures to ensure optimal performance.
  • Install, configure, and maintain network infrastructure (LAN, WAN, wireless).
  • Monitor network performance and troubleshoot connectivity issues.
  • Assist with IT project planning, implementation, and delivery on schedule.
  • Collaborate with departments to understand business needs and develop IT solutions.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of IT processes, configurations, and end-user guides.
  • Conduct end-user training on new systems, software, and IT best practices.
  • Manage inventory and procurement of IT equipment and software licenses.
  • Perform physical tasks such as climbing ladders and lifts and using hand/power tools for installation or maintenance.
  • Analyze business processes and recommend IT solutions to enhance efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate work hours and schedules; falsification of time records will result in immediate corrective action.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting hardware, software, and networks.
  • Experience with Windows Server, VMware, Citrix, and firewall management.
  • Knowledge of IT security practices, data protection, and disaster recovery.
  • Ability to document technical processes and deliver clear training materials.
  • Experience with IT service management frameworks (ITSM) and project management tools.
  • Familiarity with business analysis, process improvement, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Physical capability to perform tasks such as climbing ladders, lifts, and using hand/power tools.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

  • Full-time, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Schedule may change based on business needs.
  • Occasional evening or weekend work may be required.

Travel Required:

  • Requires valid Class C driver’s license.
  • Local plant and site visits up to 40% of the time; overnight travel up to 15%.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, or related field or equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years of experience in IT support, system administration, or network management.
  • Experience in manufacturing or industrial environments (ready-mix concrete industry preferred).
  • Proficiency with Windows operating systems and enterprise IT systems.
  • Experience conducting end-user training and developing training materials.
  • Proven ability to manage IT projects and initiatives effectively.
  • Knowledge of electrical principles, circuits, and safety.
  • Familiarity with BI tools (e.g., Crystal Reports), structured cabling, VMware, Citrix, and firewalls.
  • Knowledge of structured cabling systems.
  • Knowledge of VMware, Citrix, and Firewalls.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Operates in both professional office and industrial plant environments.
  • Routinely uses standard office equipment, including laptops, smartphones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and scanners.
  • Regularly required to talk, hear, and communicate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to lift files, open filing cabinets, and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk while working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Must be able to climb concrete plants to perform IT-related tasks such as installing or adjusting security cameras, installing or troubleshooting wireless access points, and running network or power cables.
