IT Intern - Erie, PA

Position Summary:
The IT Intern advances the mission of Barber National Institute by supporting responsible, innovative, and value-driven use of technology across the organization. This role provides structured exposure to core IT functions while contributing meaningful work that supports operational excellence, data stewardship, cybersecurity, and cross departmental partnership.

Through a guided rotational model and focused project assignments, the IT Intern gains hands on experience with enterprise technology environments, governance practices, analytics, compliance, and emerging technologies (including artificial intelligence). The internship emphasizes learning, curiosity, ethical judgment, and the practical application of IT concepts in a complex nonprofit human services environment.

  • Professional written and verbal communication skills
What You’ll Have:
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Valid, active U.S drivers license
  • Pre-hire Clearances: State Police Criminal Record Check, Child Abuse Clearance, FBI Clearance (if you have not lived in PA for the past 2 years).
  • Currently enrolled in or recently completed a four year degree program in Business, Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Cybersecurity, or a related field preferred.
  • Prior coursework, internships, labs, or project based experience in IT, data, or analytics preferred. Professional experience not required.
A Typical Day May Include:
  • Observe and support activities related to end user computing, networks, identity, cloud infrastructure, and security operations.
  • Gain familiarity with core enterprise applications, data flows, integrations, and system dependencies.
  • Support administrative IT functions and gain exposure to project and portfolio management concepts, documentation, and governance artifacts.
  • Learn how IT strategy aligns with organizational priorities, risk management, compliance requirements, and interdepartmental partnership.
  • Observe IT change management, risk identification, mitigation practices, and compliance considerations.
  • Explore how data, reporting, analytics, and AI tools are used responsibly to support decision making and organizational value.
  • Gain exposure to privacy principles, security controls, and data governance responsibilities.
  • Observe how vendors are evaluated, documented, monitored, and managed within IT and compliance frameworks.
