IT Security Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Security Engineer to help secure the organization’s infrastructure, communications, and data. This role is responsible for implementing, operating, and continuously improving security controls across on-premises and cloud environments. The Security Engineer works closely with the IT Security Manager and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure systems are designed, deployed, and maintained with security best practices in mind. This position is hands-on, technical, and focused on execution, monitoring, and continuous improvement of the organization’s cybersecurity posture. This position is full-time and based in the Kansas City, Missouri area.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3–5+ years of hands- on experience in cybersecurity, systems administration, network engineering, or a related technical role.
  • Experience administering and supporting enterprise security technologies such as firewalls, endpoint protection, and vulnerability scanners.
  • Working knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS and/or Azure), including core security concepts and services.
  • Experience with scripting or automation using tools such as Python or PowerShell.
  • Familiarity with security frameworks and best practices (e.g., least privilege, defense in depth, zero trust).
  • Experience creating or maintaining technical security documentation and procedures.
  • Professional certifications in cybersecurity, networking, or cloud technologies are preferred.
  • Telecommunications or service provider industry experience is a plus.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implement, configure, and maintain security technologies to protect employees, customers, data, networks, and other organizational assets.
  • Monitor security systems, logs, and alerts to identify, investigate, and respond to potential security incidents.
  • Administer and support network security platforms, including firewalls and remote access solutions.
  • Perform vulnerability scanning, analysis, and remediation activities using tools such as Tenable.io or Nessus.
  • Assist with the design, implementation, and maintenance of Identity & Access Management (IAM) solutions, including MFA and SSO.
  • Support compliance efforts by gathering evidence, implementing required controls, and remediating audit findings.
  • Conduct regular access reviews and system log reviews to ensure adherence to security policies.
  • Develop, update, and maintain technical security documentation, standards, and procedures.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, application, and cloud teams to ensure new and existing systems are implemented securely.
  • Provide advanced technical support for security related incidents and service requests.
  • Assist with the administration and testing of backup and recovery processes.
  • Participate in security awareness initiatives and help reinforce secure behaviors across the organization.
  • Stay current with emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and security technologies, and recommend improvements as appropriate.
