IT Specialist

Under the direction of the County Operations Manager, the Information Technology Specialist ("ITS")
performs a wide variety of responsible and complex technical duties in support of the County
Manager's Office and other County departments. The ITS provides technical support, systems
maintenance, cybersecurity assistance, and end-user training for county departments and facilities.
The employee must exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and provide excellent customer
service to county staff and elected officials


Responsibilities:
Provide desktop support for all County Departments.
Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, printer, network, phone, and mobile device issues.
Install, configure, and maintain desktop computers, laptops, tablets, and peripherals. Updates
forms and assembles orientation packets.
Assist with maintenance of county servers, cloud systems, user accounts, backups, and shared
drives.
Aid with hardware troubleshooting for Commission meetings and other board meetings conducted at the
County Administrative Building and other County sites.
Maintains asset lists for all County IT hardware and provides recommendations on replacement
schedules.
Aids in the County IT budget request process

  • Maintains primary or back-up credentials for all County software systems (Tyler lncode, PayPro, Timeclock Plus, etc.)
  • Acts as the County liaison to the County's IT vendor and coordinates with the IT vendor on network and hardware failures.
  • Assist in implementation of cybersecurity best practices.
  • Help maintain disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
  • Participate in county technology upgrades and modernization projects.
  • Assist with procurement of hardware/software under county purchasing rules.
  • Maintain IT inventory, warranties, licensing records, and asset tagging.
  • Train county staff on systems, security awareness, and software use.
  • Communicate technical issues clearly to non-technical users.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with departments, vendors, and the public.

Preferred Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of County government and operations.
  • Knowledge software and hardware systems operated by the County.
Preferred Experience:
Must have a valid New Mexico driver's license, must be insured for liability purposes.
Must have High School Diploma or GED. Must be able to pass background check.
Two years of technical experience in IT services or management.
