JOB SUMMARY

The Information Technology (IT) Specialist position is assigned to a high-profile project / account. Depending on the assignment, this unique IT specialist role may spend time in one or multiple key areas including: System Administration, Information Security, Web Development, network engineering, general IT support / Help Desk and / or other field-based engagement focused on IT services. Specific duties / tasks may vary and be documented separately

The position requires the ability to use a variety of soft skills, technical skills and industry knowledge to provide the most comprehensive support to the assigned account. IT Specialists, regardless of specialization, must be able to adjust quickly to real-time changing priorities within a complex and fluid environment, and in a new and quickly growing sector of the Company. The ideal candidate is service oriented and demonstrates a unique blend of technical mastery, creativity and collaboration. Additionally, candidates must be service oriented and focused on continuous learning.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Primary job function is management of IT operations and/or site-based IT planning and execution. Has limited profit & loss responsibility for direct expenses, all unbilled labor, and operations costs, and staff management. This job description applies only to salaried positions performing essential functions of the nature described, with the authority to make independent choices, free from immediate supervision, in significant matters that affect the business, or to carry out tasks that are directly and closely related to such work, no less than 50% of the time

I N F O R M A T I O N T E C H N O L O G Y -S Y S T EM A D M I N I S T R A T I O N

  • Maintain and improve Company technical systems to ensure employees have the technology needed to complete their work and important files and information remain safe and intact. May include but not limited to responding to hardware problems, updating system software and tracking the data and communications used on the assigned Client’s network.
  • Conduct hardware and software technical reviews of operational systems, review diagnostics and assess the functionality and efficiency of systems; monitor logs; identify system problems that are of an unusual or complex nature and develop corrective action.
  • Provide technical support, guidance and instruction to users and other IT specialists. Troubleshoot computer problems, resolve and / or escalate as needed.
  • Support software development, operations, and maintenance by participating in efforts to assess software architecture and ensuring the integration of IT application products and services. May audit system behavior and monitor firewalls to protect sensitive information and uphold cybersecurity protocols.
  • Provide operational-level oversight and guidance of planning, testing, scheduling, and deployment of patches and updates required to maintain vulnerability compliance. Develop, review, and modify changes to schedule of operations for day-to-day operations.
  • Oversee operational software integration issues by applying System Development Lifecycle (SDLC) principles, estimating application development resources and timelines, monitoring activities, and evaluating and reporting on accomplishments.
  • Integrate new technology into new and existing systems to include the transition and migration of applications. Participate in the installation and configuration of applications software and the establishment of user environments.
  • Prepare, coordinate, and implement policy and procedures for hardware and software applications system operation.
  • Provide expert technical advice, guidance, and recommendations to management and other technical specialists on critical IT fixes to ensure that applications are optimized for state-of-the-art technology and functionality.

  • Designs and/or codes applications following specifications using the appropriate tools.Assumes responsibility for ongoing data architecture forapplications.
  • Ensuresthe integrity of the system at all times,including data integrity when developing,maintaining, or enhancing applications.
  • Assists with releases to QA and production environments. Performs code review and assists colleagues on coding best practices
  • Works closely with Software Developers and QA Engineers (as applicable) to deliver high-quality products in a time and a cost-effective manner
  • Collaborating with other professionals to determine functional and non-functional requirements for new software or applications; Provide practical solutions to problems that arise during the engineering and architectural processes.
  • Identify product requirements and limitations to ensure system function.

N E T W O R K E N G I N E E R I N G / A D M I N I S T R A T I O N

  • Utilize IT knowledge (e.g. TCP/IP, OSPF, EIGRP, network services, LAN, Firewalls, etc) to support & develop company networks, coordinate with appropriate leadership to identify network needs and provide assistance to employees and other individuals on how to use the network effectively.
  • Maintaining computer networks including mainframes, VPNs, routers and other physical hardware as applicable to the assignment
  • Install and configure network equipment; administer, manage and maintain all cisco routers, switches, firewalls, software and appliances
  • Create firewalls and update virus protection software and data security systems to keep data and communications protected
  • Monitor computer systems to improve network performance for all systems; analyze, troubleshoot, resolve and communicate networking issues to employees and management as appropriate. Implement disaster recovery procedures
  • May be responsible for creating and updating manuals to support users and resolve common issues.
  • Maintain current knowledge and understanding of security and networking best practices to offer the best solutions and protection to organization’s systems

Job Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AT ENTRY

Additional qualifications may be specified and receive preference depending upon the nature of the position

Basic Qualifications

  • Must be a citizen of the United States
  • Ability to acquire and maintain an agency / government security clearance
  • Ability to acquire and maintain any other specific special clearances/access requirements.
  • At least 18 years of age

Education/Experience

  • A High School Diploma / GED or equivalent experience.
  • A Bachelor’s degree is preferred, ideally in computer science or equivalent. Relevant IT and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • For sysadmin - Those with GSEC, SCNP, SSCP, or Security+ are desired
  • For Network Engineer - CCNP, CCIE and CISSP are desired
  • For Web Developer - MCAD, MCSD or MCPD is desired
  • Depending on the specialization, at least two (2) to six (6) years of relevant IT experience in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job, as determined by the company.
  • 1 year of supporting various versions of Microsoft Operating Systems, Utilizing software programming languages, such as knowledge in JAVA.
  • Web, Front-End Developmentleveraging HTML5, CSS, Restful web services, JQuery, Bootstrap, JS,andJSON; Database designing, database performance, management, and tuning experience
  • Integrating IT application products and services into an operational environment; and
  • Troubleshooting security-related issues for hardware and software systems

Background Prerequisites

Must undergo and meet company standards for background and reference checks, controlled substance testing, and behavioral selection survey, in addition to any mandatory licensing requirements

Competencies (as demonstrated through experience, training, and/or testing)

  • Must be able to meet and continue to meet any applicable state, county and municipal licensing requirements for the position
  • Working knowledge of relevant operating systems, software and programming
  • Knowledge and experience with various operating systems, to include Windows Server 2016 R2, Windows 10 Professional/Enterprise, Linux and Unix.
