Job Description

Overview

The IT Supervisor will lead Quarterhill’s Corporate IT team, oversee the daily operations of the department and ensure the reliable performance of all hardware, software, and network systems that deliver solutions to our employees. This role manages a team of IT professionals, delivering technical support across the organization and driving IT initiatives that align with business priorities. The IT Supervisor is accountable for safeguarding the security and integrity of the company’s technology infrastructure, while ensuring compliance with internal policies and external regulatory requirements.


Responsibilities

IT Operations and Support

a. Supervise the day-to-day activities of the IT support team, ensuring timely resolution of IT issues.
b. Provide hands-on technical support and troubleshooting for staff, hardware, software, and networking issues.
c. Maintain and oversee IT inventory, ensuring the availability and proper functioning of all IT equipment and tools.

Team Leadership and Development
a. Lead, train, and mentor a team of IT professionals, promoting continuous learning and professional development.
b. Assign tasks and responsibilities to team members, ensuring a balanced workload and efficient operations.
c. Conduct regular performance evaluations, set clear goals, and provide feedback to enhance team productivity.

IT Security and Compliance
a. Working with the Security Manager, support the implementation and maintenance of cybersecurity protocols to protect company data and networks from security breaches.
b. Ensure compliance with relevant industry regulations, data privacy laws, and internal IT policies.
c. Regularly audit systems and networks to identify vulnerabilities and ensure data integrity.
d. Continuously hunt for “Shadow IT” and report its existence

Project Management and IT Strategy
a. Oversee the planning, implementation, and execution of IT projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget.
b. Collaborate with other departments to understand their technology needs and propose IT solutions that align with business goals.
c. Assist in the development of IT budgets and monitor departmental expenditures to ensure financial efficiency.
d. In all endeavors, strive for the most cost-effective solution
e. Other duties as required.


Qualifications
  • Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • Experience:
  • 5+ years of experience in IT support and management, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Experience with IT infrastructure management, including servers, networks, and hardware.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of operating systems (e.g., Windows, Linux, MacOS), networking protocols, and IT hardware.
  • Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud).
  • Experience with IT security management, including firewalls, encryption, and vulnerability assessments.
  • Certifications:
  • ITIL certification, CompTIA Network+, or other relevant IT certifications preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience managing IT teams in a fast-paced or complex business environment.
  • Knowledge of enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems and business applications.
  • Familiarity with virtualization tools and technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
