IT Support Engineer

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced IT Lead to take full ownership of our internal IT operations and Azure cloud environment. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring deep technical expertise in Azure Infrastructure managed services, combined with the ability to manage day-to-day internal IT support for end users. You will act as the primary escalation point for all internal technical issues while driving cloud strategy, security, and cost optimization.

Key Responsibilities

Internal IT Support & Operations

  • Lead and manage internal IT support for all employees (hardware, software, networking, collaboration tools).
  • Ensure high availability of internal systems: Active Directory, email, file sharing, VPN, printers, and endpoint management.
  • Manage end-user devices (Windows/Mac), patching, antivirus, and backup solutions.
  • Oversee IT service desk tickets, SLAs, and user satisfaction.
  • Develop and enforce internal IT policies (acceptable use, data protection, access control).

Azure Cloud Infrastructure Management

  • Act as the Azure Managed Services expert – design, deploy, monitor, and optimize Azure infrastructure (VMs, Storage, Networking, Azure Backup, Site Recovery).
  • Manage identity and access using Azure AD (Entra ID), RBAC, and conditional access policies.
  • Implement and maintain infrastructure as code (preferably Terraform or Bicep) for consistent cloud deployments.
  • Monitor cloud costs, right-size resources, and manage budgets/forecasting.
  • Ensure cloud security: NSGs, Azure Firewall, DDoS protection, Security Center, and compliance with industry standards.
  • Manage hybrid connectivity (ExpressRoute, Site-to-Site VPN) between on-premises and Azure.

Strategy & Continuous Improvement

  • Proactively identify risks and performance bottlenecks in both internal IT and Azure environments.
  • Plan and execute migrations from on-prem to Azure.
  • Maintain disaster recovery and business continuity plans (including Azure DR failover).
  • Stay up to date with Azure updates, recommend new services to improve efficiency.

Required Skills & Experience

Technical Expertise

  • Azure: 4+ years managing Azure Infrastructure (IaaS, PaaS) including:
  • Virtual Machines, VNETs, Subnets, Peering, Load Balancers, VPN Gateways
  • Azure Backup, Azure Site Recovery, Azure Monitor, Log Analytics
  • Azure Policies, Blueprints, Cost Management
  • Entra ID (Azure AD), Conditional Access, MFA
  • Internal IT: Strong knowledge of:
  • Windows Server (2016/2019/2022), Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS/DHCP
  • Microsoft 365 admin (Exchange, Teams, SharePoint, Intune)
  • Endpoint management (Intune, SCCM, or similar)
  • Networking (TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, firewalls, Wi-Fi)
  • Backup solutions (Veeam, Azure Backup, or similar)
  • Scripting/automation: PowerShell, Azure CLI, or Terraform/Bicep.

Soft Skills & Leadership

  • Proven ability to lead IT support operations and cloud infrastructure simultaneously.
  • Strong problem-solving under pressure (incident management).
  • Excellent communication – ability to explain technical issues to non-technical staff.
  • Self-driven, organized, with a focus on documentation and process improvement.

Certifications (preferred but not mandatory)

  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
  • CompTIA Network+ / Security+
  • ITIL Foundation
