Summary
The ITS Engineer role is critical to the successful design, implementation, integration, and ongoing operation of roadway technology systems across the LBJ, NTE, and NTE 35W corridors. This position ensures that Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), Toll Collection Systems (TCS), network communications, and related field systems are designed, implemented, tested, and transitioned to operations in compliance with the Comprehensive Development Agreement (CDA). The ITS Engineer coordinates internal stakeholders and external contractors to deliver technical solutions on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with operational and performance requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Serve as technical project coordinator for ITS and Field Systems projects from design through operations handover.
· Provide subject matter expertise on ITS, tolling, and roadway technology systems to support project planning and execution.
· Assists in updating monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for inclusion into the Comprehensive Development Agreement (CDA) & Project Management Plan required reports (PMP).
· Coordinate and manage project plans, action items, schedules, and technical meetings with internal teams and external vendors.
· Participate in system integration, testing, and acceptance activities to ensure compliance with performance and operational specifications.
· Review, evaluate, and approve technical documentation produced by system integrators, contractors, and consultants.
· Coordinate design, implementation, testing, and handover of roadside system upgrades, modifications, and enhancements.
· Manage and supervise field projects including lane closures, review workplans and coordinate with other activities, ensuring that best practices are applied.
· Assists in the preparation and submittal of the O&M annual budget for approval.
· Assists and cooperates with the Financial department in the achievement of the annual budget’s improvement goals.
· Assists in the preparation of the annual renewal work schedule.
· Assists in all ITS related utility crossing permits, liaising with Utilities and utilities department of TxDOT.
· Analyze requests for design changes, enhancements, or customizations and provide technical recommendations.
· Identify, track, and escalate system, schedule, and project risks to management.
· Support inventory control and asset tracking processes for ITS and Field Systems equipment.
· Act as an escalation point to resolve technical issues with internal groups and external suppliers.
· Develop and maintain technical documentation, help sheets, and knowledge base materials for operations handover.
· Coordinate and manage change requests within system integrator contracts from approval through implementation.
· Ensure coordination with civil works contractors to resolve field integration issues efficiently.
· Maintain compliance with concession safety standards, CDA requirements, and legal obligations.
· Coordinate MOT with other departments and be a single point of contact for critical tasks as such.
· Prepare and submit claims packages.
· Support the Implementation and Field systems side doing QC of the works.
Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)
Education & Experience:
· Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Civil, or a related field.
· 1- 3 years of experience in ITS, tolling systems, telecommunications, or roadway technology environments in a major infrastructure developer preferred.
· Hands-on experience with system implementation, integration, and testing of field technology systems.
· Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams, vendors, and contractors.
· Effectively manage tasks and tight deadlines.
· Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

· Strong knowledge of IT network communications and systems. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, MS Project or equivalent planning tools, and other PC-based applications, GIS experience desirable (ESRI preferred), Asset management tool

Pay: $32.00 - $37.00 per hour
