Liberty Dogs™ is a premier Service Dog training program whose goal is to empower Veterans with disabilities to lead more independent and fulfilling lives - enhancing their well-being through the unconditional support that Liberty Service Dogs provide. Located on a 27-acre campus, it includes a training facility, dog housing, an administrative and multipurpose building, and accommodations for Veterans staying on campus to train with their Liberty Service Dogs.


Position Summary:

The Janitor/Porter is responsible for maintaining cleanliness, sanitation and general appearance of the facility’s public areas, back-of-house spaces, guest zones and supporting departmental tasks to ensure a safe, welcoming environment for guests, visitors and staff. The current shift will be from 12 pm to 8:30 pm with the potential for change.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Clean and maintain assigned areas (e.g., lobbies, hallways, restrooms, storage areas, service corridors) according to departmental standards.
  • Empty trash and recycling receptacles and properly dispose of waste (including any special waste streams if required).
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, buff floors; clean walls, windows, mirrors, furniture, upholstery, fixtures.
  • Replenish supplies (e.g., soap, paper towels, amenities) in restrooms and common areas.
  • Respond to spills, clean up and sanitize as needed, following infection-control (or hygienic) and safety protocols.
  • Transport linen, carts, cleaning equipment; restock housekeeping/EVS closets as required.
  • Report any maintenance issues (e.g., broken fixtures, lighting, hazards) to maintenance or supervisor.
  • Comply with all safety standards including proper handling of cleaning chemicals, PPE, and safe lifting/ergonomics.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments (housekeeping, engineering, front desk, etc.) and provide courteous service to guests/visitors/staff.
  • Clean outside parameter as needed (e.g., leaves, window washing, etc.).
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience in janitorial/housekeeping/EVS role.
  • Ability to read, write, follow instructions in English; good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail, reliable attendance, willingness to follow safety and cleanliness standards.
  • Problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
  • Discreet, trustworthy, and respectful of personal space and property
  • Friendly and professional demeanor; comfortable interacting with guests
  • Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings as needed
  • Basic computer skill (task tracking, calendaring, email, etc.)
  • Valid drivers license and clean driving record

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

  • Facility environment (hotel/resort/hospital). Exposure to cleaning chemicals, noise, and varying temperatures.
  • Shifts may include day, evening, night depending on operational needs.
  • May require working independently or as part of a team, often in high-activity zones.
  • Physically demanding role — includes standing, bending, and moving throughout the day
  • Must be comfortable lifting up to 35 pounds on a regular basis
  • May involve occasional outdoor tasks
  • Overtime may occasionally be required
  • Willingness to take on special projects as requested
  • Ability to report to work earlier and/or stay later with short notice on occasion.
