Job Cost Accountant (2 yrs exp req)

Position Summary

Geospecialties is seeking a Cost Accountant with strong job costing experience to support our geotechnical construction operations. This role ensures accurate job‐level financials, supports certified and prevailing wage payroll processes, and provides cost visibility to project managers and leadership. The position is critical for maintaining compliance, improving cost accuracy, and supporting operational decision‐making. This position is primarily remote, with occasional visits to our Lexington, KY office for collaboration and team meetings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Job Costing & Project Accounting
  • Maintain accurate job cost records for labor, materials, subcontractors, equipment, and overhead.
  • Prepare and analyze job cost reports, cost‐to‐complete, and budget vs. actuals.
  • Monitor cost variances and escalate issues early to PMs and leadership.
  • Support WIP schedules, revenue recognition, and month‐end close for job‐related accounts.
  • Certified & Prevailing Wage Payroll Support
  • Assist payroll with certified payroll reporting and prevailing wage compliance.
  • Validate labor coding for correct job, phase, and wage determination assignments.
  • Support audits (DOL, workers comp, DOT, state agencies) with accurate job/labor documentation.

Financial Operations & Controls

  • Reconcile job cost accounts and ensure ERP data integrity.
  • Maintain documentation for job budgets, change orders, and cost adjustments.
  • Partner with operations to ensure accurate timekeeping, material coding, and subcontractor billing.
  • Assist with annual budgets and forecasting at the job and division level.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent experience.
  • 2–5+ years of accounting experience with direct job costing required.
  • Experience in construction, geotechnical, civil, or project‐based industries.
  • Familiarity with certified payrolls, prevailing wage rules, or Davis‐Bacon.
  • Strong Excel skills and experience with ERP job modules (Deltek preferred).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with multi‐state payroll or multi‐entity operations.
  • Prior work with WIP reporting, cost‐to‐complete, and project forecasting.
  • Experience supporting audits (workers comp, DOL, state agencies).

Pay: $68,000.00 - $88,000.00 per year
