Overview
We are seeking experienced Journeyman Electricians for industrial, commercial, and institutional electrical projects throughout the Metro Detroit area. The ideal candidate holds a valid State of Michigan Journeyman Electrician license and has hands-on experience with electrical installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance in commercial or industrial settings. Both union (IBEW Local 58) and non-union candidates are encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, systems, and fixtures in commercial and industrial facilities
- Read and interpret electrical blueprints, schematics, one-line diagrams, and NEC code requirements
- Install and terminate conductors in panels, switchgear, transformers, disconnects, and motor control centers (MCCs)
- Pull wire and cable through conduit (EMT, rigid, PVC, MC cable, tray systems)
- Install conduit systems including bending, threading, and supporting per NEC and project specs
- Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical malfunctions using multimeters, megohmmeters, and other test equipment
- Install and wire lighting systems, receptacles, switches, and dedicated circuits
- Work with 120V, 208V, 240V, 277V, and 480V systems (single-phase and three-phase)
- Install fire alarm systems, emergency lighting, and life safety systems
- Install and connect motor starters, VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives), and control wiring
- Perform power quality testing and verify proper grounding and bonding
- Label circuits, panels, and equipment per code and project requirements
- Coordinate with other trades (pipefitters, millwrights, HVAC, controls) on multi-discipline projects
- Comply with all NEC, OSHA, MIOSHA, and site-specific safety requirements
- Maintain tools, test equipment, and a clean, organized work area
- Complete daily work reports and as-built documentation as required
Required Qualifications
Non-Negotiable: Valid State of Michigan Journeyman Electrician License is required.
- Valid State of Michigan Journeyman Electrician License (required — non-negotiable)
- Minimum 4 years of hands-on electrical experience in commercial or industrial environments
- Thorough knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) — current edition
- Ability to read and interpret electrical blueprints, schematics, and one-line diagrams
- Proficiency with conduit bending (hand, mechanical, and hydraulic benders)
- Experience with 120V through 480V systems (single and three-phase)
- Proficient use of test equipment (multimeters, megohmmeters, ammeters, circuit tracers)
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
- Valid Michigan driver's license and reliable transportation
- Must pass pre-employment drug screening and background check
- Physically capable of lifting 50+ lbs, climbing ladders, working at heights, and in confined spaces
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with medium voltage (above 600V) installation and termination
- Experience with PLC and controls wiring (Allen-Bradley, Siemens)
- Low-voltage and data/communications cabling experience (Cat5e/Cat6/fiber)
- Arc flash safety training and NFPA 70E certification
- Aerial lift and scissor lift certifications
- Confined space and fall protection training
