Journeyman Lineman/ Substation Technicians/ QEW for Weather Station Installation and Service

Overview
Western Low Voltage Inc. (WLOVO) is seeking a skilled, safety-focused Qualified Electrical Worker (QEW) who is IBEW-eligible (current or previously trained) to support installation, maintenance, calibration, and documentation of remote weather station systems.

This role is ideal for candidates with strong electrical and utility field experience who are comfortable working in energized environments and at height. No prior weather station experience is required—WLOVO will provide training on all weather station systems and equipment.

Work includes bucket truck operation, utility pole-mounted installations, sensor calibration, and field-based electrical and mechanical tasks across multiple states.

Duties

  • Field Installation & Electrical Work
  • Install, service, and troubleshoot weather station systems (training provided)
  • Safely operate bucket trucks for installation, maintenance, and repair work
  • Perform work on utility poles, including mounting equipment and running wiring
  • Install, terminate, and test low-voltage DC systems, including solar and battery systems
  • Follow all electrical safety protocols consistent with QEW standards
  • Weather Station & Sensor Field Work (Training Provided)
  • Mount weather stations and sensors to utility poles using brackets, cross-arms, and streetlight arms
  • Install, calibrate, and replace environmental sensors following WLOVO procedures
  • Run, bury, test, and troubleshoot ground-based sensor systems
  • Connect and verify communication and sensor cabling within equipment enclosures
  • Mount and align antennas and field equipment
  • Assist with deployment and calibration using portable reference stations
  • Update firmware and configure system components using field laptops

Experience

  • Proven experience as a Journeyman Lineman or Substation Technician with a strong background in electrical systems installation and maintenance.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate bucket trucks, bucket lifts, and climbing gear safely in outdoor environments.
  • Knowledge of high voltage (HV) and low voltage (LV) electrical systems; familiarity with NEC regulations is essential.
  • Skilled in troubleshooting electrical issues using tools such as ohmmeters; experience with IT infrastructure integration is a plus.
  • Construction site experience including utility locating, tree trimming around power lines or equipment sites is highly desirable.
  • Ability to read technical blueprints and schematics accurately; experience working on weather station or communication tower installations preferred.
  • Strong field service background with the ability to adapt quickly to changing environments while maintaining safety standards.   • Required Qualifications
  • · Qualified Electrical Worker (QEW)
  • · IBEW-eligible (current member, apprentice, or previously trained)
  • · Experience working in utility, electrical, or outdoor field environments
  • · Experience operating bucket trucks or aerial lifts
  • · Strong understanding of low-voltage electrical systems and DC power systems and batteries
  • · Ability to work at heights and in outdoor environments in all weather conditions
  • · Ability to lift 50 lbs and perform physically demanding work
  • · Proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Excel, SharePoint, OneDrive, Word)
  • · OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
  • · Experience with utility pole-mounted equipment or field electrical installations
  • · Experience with solar or off-grid power systems

Pay: $40.00 - $60.00 per hour
