Job Summary
The Junior Engineer will support engineering, fabrication, and project execution activities related to heavy engineering structures used in oil & gas and marine applications. The role involves assisting in design coordination, fabrication follow-up, material verification, quality compliance, and site/project support to ensure that projects are delivered safely, on time, and in accordance with technical specifications and industry standards.
Roles & Responsibilities
1. Engineering & Technical Support
- Assist in reviewing engineering drawings, fabrication drawings, and technical specifications.
- Support preparation and verification of GA drawings, shop drawings, and fabrication details.
- Ensure compliance with project specifications, codes, and standards such as DNV, API, AWS, ASME, or ISO where applicable.
- Coordinate with the design team for clarifications, revisions, and technical documentation.
2. Fabrication & Production Coordination
- Monitor fabrication activities related to structural steel, marine structures, lifting equipment, and heavy engineering components.
- Ensure fabrication is carried out according to approved drawings and welding procedures.
- Assist in resolving shop-floor technical issues related to fabrication and assembly.
- Coordinate with workshop supervisors for production planning and progress monitoring.
3. Material & Procurement Support
- Verify material specifications, mill certificates, and material traceability.
- Assist procurement team in preparing material requisitions and technical evaluations.
- Ensure materials used in fabrication comply with project specifications and approved standards.
4. Quality Control & Inspection
- Support QA/QC team in conducting inspection of fabricated structures.
- Assist in coordinating NDT tests (UT, MT, PT, RT) and third-party inspections.
- Ensure compliance with WPS, PQR, and welding qualifications.
- Maintain inspection records and documentation.
5. Project Coordination
- Track project progress and report status to senior engineers or project managers.
- Assist in preparation of technical reports, method statements, and project documentation.
- Coordinate with clients, consultants, and third-party inspectors when required.
6. Site & Installation Support
- Provide support during installation, load testing, and commissioning of fabricated structures.
- Assist in troubleshooting technical or installation issues at site.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and project requirements during site activities.
7. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain proper records of:
- Drawings and revisions
- Inspection reports
- Test certificates
- Project correspondence
- Prepare daily/weekly progress reports.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering / Structural Engineering / Marine Engineering.
Required Skills
- Basic knowledge of heavy steel fabrication and structural engineering.
- Familiarity with oil & gas or marine project requirements.
- Understanding of welding processes, structural fabrication, and inspection procedures.
- Ability to read engineering and fabrication drawings.
- Knowledge of AutoCAD or similar drafting software is preferred.
- Good communication and coordination skills.
Preferred Experience
- 0 – 3 years experience in heavy fabrication / oil & gas / marine engineering projects.
- Exposure to lifting equipment, davits, winches, offshore structures, or marine components will be an advantage.
