Junior Analyst – Real Estate Credit

About JLJ Capital:

JLJ Capital is a privately held real estate credit platform focused on originating and investing in structured debt across the capital stack. Our firm specializes in transitional and Ground up development and opportunistic lending, providing tailored financing solutions to sponsors in urban markets nationwide.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and driven Junior Analyst with at least 2 years of experience in real estate credit to support our originations team in pre-screening and evaluating incoming loan opportunities . The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical and market research skills, and a solid foundation in underwriting and real estate fundamentals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Pre-screen incoming loan submissions for completeness, sponsor quality, and alignment with JLJ Capital’s investment criteria
  • Conduct initial underwriting, financial analysis, and valuation across all major asset classes including multifamily, industrial, office, and hospitality
  • Prepare concise deal summaries and underwritten snapshots for internal pipeline review
  • Perform market and submarket analysis to support investment assumptions
  • Assist with the collection and review of borrower materials, third-party reports, and sponsor background information
  • Maintain an organized deal pipeline and assist with investment committee prep
  • Support originators and senior credit team members in due diligence and structuring recommendations

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Real Estate, Finance, Economics, or a related field
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in commercial real estate credit, preferably at a lender, debt fund, or investment firm
  • Proficiency in Excel and financial modeling, including cash flow modeling and sensitivity analysis
  • Working knowledge of real estate capital structures and lending metrics (LTV, LTC, DSCR, debt yield)
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced, transaction-oriented environment

Preferred Skills:

  • Exposure to bridge and construction lending
  • Familiarity with loan documentation, closing workflows, and third-party diligence coordination
  • Experience using Argus, CoStar, Trepp, or similar tools
