Junior Coffee Roaster

At Jeremiah’s Pick Coffee Co., we are an established specialty coffee roaster supplying retail, wholesale, and national accounts. Our roasting operation is built on consistency, precision, and disciplined execution at scale.

We are hiring a Junior Coffee Roaster (Trainee) to join our production team and develop into a certified production roaster through a structured, hands-on training program.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position with a clear path to advancement.

Role Overview

You will train directly under experienced roasters and production leadership to learn green coffee handling, roast execution, quality control, and production systems.

The objective is simple:
become a reliable, independent roaster capable of producing consistent, high-quality coffee at scale.

What You’ll DoRoasting & Production

  • Execute roast profiles across multiple coffee SKUs
  • Learn roast curves, charge temperatures, airflow, and development control
  • Assist in daily production roasting and packaging operations
  • Progress toward independently running roasting shifts

Green Coffee & Inventory

  • Learn origin characteristics, lot tracking, and green coffee handling
  • Assist with receiving, staging, and organizing green coffee
  • Work within inventory and production tracking systems

Quality Control

  • Participate in daily cupping and sensory calibration
  • Learn to identify defects and maintain flavor consistency
  • Support QC checks before product release

Equipment & Systems

  • Learn roasting equipment operation, cleaning, and basic maintenance
  • Follow safety and food handling protocols
  • Maintain a clean, efficient production environment

Operational Execution

  • Follow established SOPs with precision and consistency
  • Support production targets and deadlines
  • Work closely with the team to maintain workflow efficiency

Training & Growth Path

  • Structured onboarding into roasting theory and production systems
  • Hands-on mentorship with experienced roasters
  • Milestone-based progression toward independent roasting
  • Typical timeline: 6–12 months to full production roaster assistant

Who You Are

  • Highly consistent and detail-oriented
  • Comfortable with repetition and process-driven work
  • Strong work ethic and coachable mindset
  • Able to operate both technically (systems) and sensorially (taste)
  • Reliable, punctual, and accountable

Requirements

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs regularly
  • Comfortable standing and working long production shifts
  • Basic computer skills (inventory / production systems)
  • Strong time management and reliability
  • Willingness to work early mornings, weekends, and overtime when needed

Preferred (Not Required)

  • Experience in coffee, food production, or manufacturing
  • Exposure to roasting, cupping, or brewing
  • Forklift certification (or willingness to obtain)
