Junior Data Analyst - Tourism Economics

Tourism Economics is a subsidiary of Oxford Economics dedicated to analytical consulting in the tourism sector. We are seeking a highly motivated Junior Data Analyst to join our data-driven team in Wayne/Philadelphia, PA. The ideal candidate should be familiar with data analysis, reporting, and visualization. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including business development, product, and data science, to help deliver actionable insights and drive decision making processes.
Our client includes destination marketing organizations at the city, state, and national levels; leading industry trade associations; and major corporate owners, operators and brands in the travel sector. We have a longstanding relationship with many of our clients, typically through subscription-based services or recurring studies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process data for clients from a wide variety of sources, requiring utmost attention to detail, with a critical eye for anomalies and knack for problem-solving.
  • Maintain Tableau dashboards and reports to visualize performance metrics, marketing efficiency, and ROI.
  • Collaborate with client, product, and engineering teams to define data requirements and provide insights. Communication with these teams regarding workflow progress and status is important.
  • Ensure data quality, consistency, and accuracy by implementing validation and governance processes. Educate teams on analytics and insights through documentation and learning sessions.
  • Automate recurring reports to focus on deeper analysis and ad-hoc requests.
  • Develop a deep understanding of relevant client data sources, the tourism industry, and key internal and external stakeholders.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

  • Experience with Data Analysis, Business Intelligence, Analytics, or a related field (internships and academic projects included) preferred.
  • Working knowledge of SQL for querying and validating data; exposure to Python is required.
  • Experience with at least one data visualization tool such as Tableau, Power BI, or Looker.
  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and identify basic trends and anomalies.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain insights to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with digital media or web analytics platforms (e.g., Google Analytics, Facebook Ads) is a plus.
  • Exposure to cloud data warehouses or analytics platforms (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery) is a plus, but not required.
