JUNIOR DESIGN ASSISTANT

About the Role

We are seeking a passionate and motivated Junior Level Design Assistant to support the Lead Designer for a custom home builder in Aiken, SC. This is an entry-level, growth- oriented position designed for someone who aspires to build a career in residential design and custom home building.

The Lead Designer oversees all stylistic and practical selections for custom homes — including tile, paint colors, cabinetry, appliances, fixtures, finishes and more. This role will provide administrative and creative support while gaining hands-on exposure to every stage of the custom home design process.

This position is ideal for a recent graduate (Interior Architecture, Interior Design, Art, or related field) or someone eager to break into the home building industry. No prior interior design experience is required —we are looking for potential, passion, and work ethic.

Key Responsibilities

Administrative & Organizational Support

Manage design-related paperwork and documentation

Assist with scheduling meetings, vendor appointments, and client selections

Take detailed notes during client and vendor meetings

Organize material samples, selection boards, and project files

Maintain spreadsheets and track design selections (Excel knowledge preferred)

Coordinate communication between vendors, clients, and internal team members

Design Support & Learning

Shadow the Lead Designer in daily activities

Attend client meetings and participate in discussions

Offer stylistic input and creative perspective

Assist with sourcing materials, finishes, and products

Help prepare presentations and selection materials

Learn the full lifecycle of custom home design from concept through installation

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

Strong interest in residential design and home building

Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office; Excel preferred)

Highly organized and detail-oriented

Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment

Professional demeanor and client-facing confidence

Willingness to work onsite in Aiken, SC (5 days per week)

Preferred (But Not Required)

Degree or coursework in Interior Architecture, Interior Design, Art, or related field

Familiarity with design basics. (Drawing to scale, reading floorplans)

Basic understanding of construction or home building processes ( And eagerness to learn more throughout the process)
