Junior Designer / Design Assistant

ABOUT US

SummitRidge Custom Homes is a boutique luxury custom home builder and remodeler in Colorado, with an in-house Design Team that handles the design for most of our projects. We operate at the luxury end of the custom residential market: no production homes, no commercial work. Every project is a one-of-a-kind build, and the design work reflects that. As a small, focused practice, every team member is hands-on with real projects from day one.

THE ROLE

This is a junior-level position built for someone who wants to learn luxury residential design from the ground up. You’ll work directly with the lead designer across multiple active projects, from early concept through material selections and construction. There’s no siloed work here: you’ll touch every phase of the process.

A meaningful portion of this role involves detail-oriented administrative and data entry work - maintaining selections matrices, organizing specs, tracking finishes. If you find that kind of precision work satisfying rather than tedious, this is a great fit. The rest of the time, you’ll be in the thick of real design.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Assist with interior and exterior design development across luxury custom home and major renovation projects
• Maintain and update selections matrices and specification documentation
• Source and research materials, fixtures, and finishes; compile cut sheets and product information
• Support SketchUp and LayOut documentation - elevations, presentation drawings, and full Interior Design plan sets
• Assist with client-facing presentation materials using Canva
• Assist with client communication, meeting prep, and presentation materials
• Coordinate with contractors, trade vendors, and the build team as needed

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

• Degree in interior design (CIDA-accredited program preferred)
• Proficiency (or eagerness to learn) in SketchUp, LayOut, and V-Ray
• Comfort with Canva - we use it regularly for client presentations and design packages
• Comfort with Excel or Google Sheets
• Strong organizational skills and genuine attention to detail
• Interest in luxury custom residential - this is a niche and we want someone genuinely drawn to the creativity and problem-solving involved with these types of projects
• Self-starter mentality - in a small firm, initiative and follow-through matter a lot

A NOTE ON NCIDQ

We want to be upfront: the lead designer does not currently hold NCIDQ certification, which means this role cannot serve as a qualifying supervisory position for IDEP hour documentation. If pursuing NCIDQ is a near-term priority for you, please factor that into your decision. What we can offer is deep, real-world experience in luxury custom residential design - the kind of hands-on project exposure that’s genuinely hard to find at an entry level.
