## Job Description: Managing Editor (Educational Publishing)

**Location:** Karachi/Remote, Pakistan

**Reports to:** CEO / Director of Publications

### **Position Overview**

We are seeking a meticulous and creative **Editor** to oversee the development of our pre-primary and primary educational series. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all manuscripts align with the **Pakistan National Curriculum (SNC)** and meet international standards for literacy and phonics. You will bridge the gap between creative content generation and final production, managing a team of writers and illustrators to deliver high-quality pedagogical materials.

### **Key Responsibilities**

#### **1. Content Development & Editorial Oversight**

* **Curriculum Alignment:** Ensure all textbooks and workbooks (particularly English, Phonics, and Literacy series) comply with current national educational standards.

* **Manuscript Editing:** Sub-edit and proofread content for clarity, age-appropriate vocabulary, grammar, and pedagogical flow.

* **Series Consistency:** Maintain a cohesive tone and "voice" across multi-book series (e.g., Nursery to Prep/KG).

#### **2. Project Management**

* **Production Timeline:** Manage the editorial calendar to ensure books are ready for printing ahead of the academic session.

* **Vendor Coordination:** Work closely with graphic designers and illustrators to ensure visuals support the text and engage young learners.

* **Quality Assurance:** Conduct final "press-ready" reviews to eliminate typographical or formatting errors before mass production.

#### **3. Strategy & Research**

* **Market Analysis:** Keep abreast of educational trends in Pakistan and international phonics methodologies to keep the publication house competitive.

* **Teacher Guides:** Oversee the creation of supplementary manuals and lesson plans that empower teachers to use our publications effectively.

### **Required Qualifications & Skills**

* **Education:** Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in English Literature, Education, Linguistics, or a related field.

* **Experience:** 3–5 years of editorial experience, preferably within the Pakistani educational publishing sector.

* **Technical Proficiency:** * Expertise in **MS Office** (Word, Excel) is mandatory.

* Familiarity with **Adobe InDesign** or **InCopy** is highly preferred.

* **Language Skills:** Native-level fluency in written and spoken English; proficiency in Urdu is an asset for bilingual publications.

* **Pedagogical Knowledge:** Deep understanding of early childhood education, specifically synthetic phonics and the "Learning through Play" philosophy.
