Key Responsibilities

  • Low Voltage Systems Knowledge: A strong understanding of electrical principles as they apply to low voltage systems (e.g., telecommunications, fire alarms, security, CCTV, access control, and structured cabling) is essential.
  • Code Familiarity: Basic knowledge of the National Electric Code (NEC/NFPA 70), the Florida Building Code, NFPA 72 (fire alarm), and other relevant industry standards (NEMA, IEEE) is required.
  • Software Proficiency: Familiarity or proficiency in relevant design software is a necessity:
    • AutoCAD and Revit: Essential for creating detailed electrical schematics, layouts, and construction drawings within a BIM (Building Information Modeling) environment., Revit savvy is a huge plus.
    • Lighting Design Software: Experience with AGI32 or Visual is a plus.
    • Analysis Software: Knowledge of power system analysis programs like SKM, Etap or Easy Power is a bonus.
Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree: A Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an EAC/ABET-accredited program is the foundational requirement.
  • FE Exam: Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam is expected, as it is the first major step toward professional licensure.
  • Relevant Experience: 2 to 6 years’ experience in MEP or building systems design is a significant advantage.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills are necessary for collaborating effectively with multi-disciplinary teams (architects, civil/mechanical engineers) and clients.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are critical for designing efficient and safe systems and troubleshooting issues.
  • Attention to Detail: Precision in design and documentation is crucial for meeting stringent safety standards and project requirements.
  • Eagerness to Learn: A proactive attitude, a passion for occasional field visits, site inspections and working full time from our office (onsite position) including staying updated with industry trends and technologies, is highly valued for this junior candidate.
  • Certifications (Bonus): Industry-specific certifications such as the BICSI (Building Industry Consulting Service International) RCDD (Registered Communications Distribution Designer) or NICET certifications are advantageous for a low-voltage focus is a plus.
