GENERAL STATEMENT OF POSITION

Under general supervision, performs various calculations and prepares permits to support Engineering functions of the Authority. Meets with City, County and State agencies to plan for road changes that impact gas facilities. General knowledge of hydraulic flow models of the Authority’s distribution piping system. Organizes data and facility records as required. Works in conjunction with Engineering, Mapping, and system design efforts. Reports to the Director of Project Management.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Orders materials and assimilates construction bid documents as necessary with oversight from the Director of Project Management.
  • Reviews SCDOT projects that impact gas facilities and marks up plans and design drawings to show gas piping revisions needed – attends meetings and works with the Director of Project Management to assure projects are prioritized and ready before construction begins.
  • General understanding of Federal and State regulations by the Authority for project work planned and underway.
  • Interacts and communicates effectively with various individuals and groups within the Authority.
  • Effectively utilize spreadsheets, maps, software and online resources in performance of job duties.
  • Navigates relevant data efficiently for the Authority’s gas system and facilities.
  • Understands and can operate a working network analysis model of the Authority’s distribution piping system.
  • General understanding of, and works with, Measurement and Regulation in the design and installation of meter and regulation stations for residential, commercial, industrial and City Gate stations for the Authority’s and PEG’s systems.
  • Attends local gas organization seminars and safety meetings to stay abreast of Federal, State and industry regulations and standards.
  • Supports the Director of Project Management in duties and special project management as requested.
  • Performs other duties as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects; work requires grasping and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word, and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects, use of GPS and other electronic devices, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker may occasionally be subject to outside environmental conditions involving extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, hazards and atmospheric conditions.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Must possess effective written and oral communication skills. Ability to effectively communicate with technical and State agencies, along with natural gas Associations is very important. Basic competency using AutoCAD is preferred. Understanding of federal and state codes pertaining to natural gas is desired. Considerable knowledge of personal computer hardware and Windows based software applications for mapping and data management is helpful. General knowledge of gas properties and understanding of gas equipment useful. Comprehensive courses on natural gas distribution (such as Gas Distribution Operations offered by GTI) will provide practical benefit.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

A Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering is required. Zero to three years of relevant experience in the natural gas industry is preferred. Engineer-in-Training (EI/ EIT) Certification is preferred.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

The possession of a valid South Carolina driver’s license is required.
