Job Summary

As a Junior Full-Stack Developer, you will contribute to the ongoing development, maintenance, and enhancement of our core web application that powers Secure Warrant. This role involves both front-end and back-end work, collaborating with a small team to deliver secure, user-friendly features that directly support law enforcement and prosecutors. This is an excellent opportunity for a developer with 2–5 years of experience to grow in a meaningful domain while working on mission-critical software in a supportive environment. [Location: Boise, ID area; full-time position.]

Duties

  • Design, develop, and test software features and applications to improve platform functionality and user experience.
  • Build and maintain front-end interfaces using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, and modern frameworks (e.g., Angular or React).
  • Monthly on-call schedule to support our 24 hour support requirement.
  • Develop and integrate back-end logic with Java, JDBC, and various APIs (e.g., iText for PDF generation, Twilio, Zoom, Amazon SES).
  • Work with relational databases (MySQL preferred) including writing efficient queries, joins, and optimizing data interactions.
  • Deploy and manage web applications using Tomcat (WAR/EAR files).
  • Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot issues, implement improvements, and ensure system security and performance.
  • Participate in code reviews, testing, and documentation to maintain high-quality, maintainable code.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 2–5 years of relevant software development experience.
  • Experience with multiple programming languages and frameworks (e.g., Java, JDBC, Angular, React).
  • Strong understanding of relational databases, APIs, and system design principles.
  • Database experience (e.g., MySQL preferred, Oracle, or similar) and good understanding of database queries, including writing join statements.
  • Proficiency in web user-facing technologies: HTML, XML, JSON, CSS, jQuery, and JavaScript.
  • Experience with web application development is a plus.
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and eagerness to learn new technologies.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience) strongly preferred.
  • Ability and willingness to pass a comprehensive background check (essential due to the sensitive nature of our work in the criminal justice sector).

Required Application Component In your cover letter or as a separate attachment, include a short paragraph (3–6 sentences) describing a software system you built that did not work as expected—what happened, what went wrong, and what you learned from the experience.

Optional Bonus (Not Required — But a Great Way to Stand Out)

If you'd like, you may also include one or more of the following to strengthen your application:

  • A short paragraph describing a technical decision you disagreed with—and how you handled it professionally.
  • A link to something you've written or built (e.g., GitHub repo, personal project, portfolio piece).

We appreciate your interest in helping make the justice system more efficient and secure. We look forward to reviewing your application!
