Junior Mortgage Underwriter

GVC Mortgage is seeing a Junior Underwriter.

A Junior Mortgage Underwriter assists in evaluating loan applications to determine creditworthiness and ensure compliance with company policies, investor guidelines, and regulatory requirements. This role supports senior underwriters by reviewing documentation, identifying risk factors, and helping ensure timely and accurate loan decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review mortgage loan applications and supporting documentation (income, assets, credit reports, and property details).
  • Analyze borrower financial information to assess risk and repayment ability.
  • Ensure loans meet company guidelines, investor requirements, and regulatory standards (e.g., FHA, VA, Conventional).
  • Identify missing or inconsistent information and request additional documentation when needed.
  • Assist senior underwriters in making approval, suspension, or denial recommendations.
  • Calculate debt-to-income (DTI) ratios and review loan-to-value (LTV) metrics.
  • Verify accuracy of data entered into underwriting systems.
  • Maintain detailed and organized loan files with clear documentation of decisions.
  • Communicate with loan officers, processors, and other team members to resolve loan issues.
  • Adhere to timelines and service-level agreements to support efficient loan processing.
  • Stay up to date on underwriting guidelines, compliance standards, and industry changes.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Accounting, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 0–2 years of experience in mortgage processing, underwriting support, or financial analysis.
  • Basic knowledge of mortgage lending guidelines and loan programs.
  • Familiarity with credit reports and financial statements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with underwriting systems such as DU (Desktop Underwriter) or LP (Loan Product Advisor).
  • Knowledge of FHA, VA, USDA, and conventional loan guidelines.
  • Exposure to compliance regulations (TRID, RESPA, etc.).
  • Mortgage or banking industry experience.
