Junior Network Security & Patching Specialist

Position Summary

• Entry-to-mid level cybersecurity and network support role focused on patching, vulnerability remediation, and operational security

• Works under the direct mentorship of the Lead Network Security Engineer

• Primary focus on patch management, vulnerability reduction, and cybersecurity operations

• Secondary exposure to networking, firewalls, and cloud environments

• Developmental role designed to grow into a Network Security Engineer position

Contract to hire. 40 to 45 per hour.

Duration: 6 months to 1 year

Patching & Vulnerability Management (Primary)

• Execute the enterprise patch management program across servers, endpoints, and network devices

• Deploy, validate, and troubleshoot OS, firmware, and application patches

• Run vulnerability scans and assist with remediation tracking

• Generate reports on patch compliance and risk exposure

Cybersecurity Operations Support

• Monitor and investigate security alerts (EDR, IDS, etc.)

• Escalate incidents following defined runbooks

• Assist with firewall rule reviews and access control updates

• Support endpoint protection and identity/VPN security

Network Operations Support

• Monitor network health and availability

• Assist with network troubleshooting and VPN/connectivity issues

• Support Meraki, Cisco, and Fortinet environments under supervision

Infrastructure & Backup Support

• Assist with backup verification and restore testing

• Support basic server patching and infrastructure hygiene

• Perform basic cloud (OCI/AWS) maintenance tasks

Documentation & Operations

• Maintain asset inventory, patch records, and diagrams

• Follow change control procedures and operational standards

Governance Requirement

• All configuration changes and security-impacting actions must be reviewed and approved by the Lead Network Security Engineer

Learning & Growth

• Develop network security and infrastructure skills

• Participate in training and security awareness initiatives

• Work toward progression into a Network Security Engineer role
