The DeKalb County Veterans Assistance Commission is seeking candidates for a Junior Veterans Service Officer. This is a full-time position (40 hours/week).

A Junior Veterans Service Officer is an entry-level position, helping veterans and their families navigate the complex world of VA benefits and services. They assist with claims (VA) processing, offer guidance, and provide support in accessing various benefits.

Must have a general knowledge of the U.S. Military. The successful candidate needs to have the ability to communicate well, both verbally and in writing, with our clients daily.

This position requires computer knowledge, organizational skills, time management skills as well as excellent communication skills, accuracy, thoroughness, and attention to detail. The person in this position will be expected to work with the Superintendent on different tasks.

Qualifications

  • Mandatory complete understanding and enforcement of Confidentiality and HIPPA
  • Knowledge of Military Branches & their Components
  • Ability to provide attention to detail while multitasking clients and/or deadlines
  • Maintain friendly and approachable persona
  • Adaptability to deal with different personalities or situations so as to diffuse, empathize, and encourage clients
  • Ability to write correspondence in a professional & cohesive manner
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and be able to learn and utilize new computer programs
  • Willingness to take initiative to achieve office goals
  • Ability to work as a team

Office Requirements

  • Office hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm
  • Casual business attire
  • Ability to sit, stand and work on a computer for long periods of time
  • Ability to occasionally lift 25 lbs
  • Ability to be able to bend, reach, push, pull, grasp, or type
  • Occasional travel may be required
  • Must be able to drive a vehicle
  • This is not a work from home position
