As a Juvenile Court Support Clerk, you’ll play an essential role in keeping court operations running smoothly by preparing, processing, and reviewing legal documents related to juvenile court cases. You’ll assist attorneys, the public, and court staff, ensuring all records are accurate, complete, and in compliance with court rules and laws. Minimum Qualifications
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Required Minimum Qualifications
Must be a high school graduate or have a certificate of successful completion of the General Educational Development (GED) Test.
Have had at least two (2) years of full-time clerical work experience in a court setting.
Essential Job Functions
Answer public inquiries concerning legal procedures for Juvenile/Adoption Services. Collects and delivers fees for petitions to the Treasurer's Office, mails certified copies of legal papers, prepares detention and custody orders and prepares court schedules.
Assists in collecting receipts, records and deposit fees for petitions and certified copies with the Treasurer's Office as needed to ensure the proper processing of adoptions.
Records daily statistics regarding adoptions as required by law and Court policy, including all hearings, requests for information, adoption orders, petitions and completed adoptions to prepare monthly, bi‑annual and special compilations for the supervisor and the state.
Logs important information in adoption cases such as date of adoption petition, hearing dates and orders to monitor the progress of each case. Types related material.
Assists in answering written requests for information including mailing petitions, information lists on adoption procedures, etc., as requested.
Dictates directions for typing by the word processing unit, of moderately complex transfer, consent and rehearing petitions from information on complaints, information provided by assistant prosecutors and/or information provided by caseworkers.
Prepares and types moderately complex court orders and related forms including summonses, subpoenas, waivers, temporary detention and/or temporary custody orders, transfer orders, certification of documents, letters and detention and/or custody orders on cases transferred to other counties to be signed by judges and referees.
Records orders signed by the Judge and related documents on the proper recording cards to ensure accurate official court records.
Posts new cases scheduled for court hearing by the Referee and various court orders issued by judges and referees to the court docket to ensure that cases are heard by the judge.
Checks and signs court orders prepared by court reporters or other lower level clerical personnel and, when authorized, signs for the Judge, to allow the official issuance of these orders.
Prepares certified mail "service of summons," as needed, to notify parents and other parties of court hearings.
Periodically checks recording of court proceedings performed by court reporters to verify accuracy of court orders as typed for distribution to legal representatives.
Notifies Prosecuting Attorney of initial contested child abuse cases for further action by that office.
Obtains contested court dates from court referees for scheduling of initial contested hearings by a Juvenile Court Referee.
Prepares or updates case summary sheets in each official file and checks files for completeness and accuracy including proper charges, necessary summonses, and proofs of service before filing.
When assigned by the Supervisor, Juvenile Legal Operations, or the Office Supervisor II (juvenile intake office), performs limited clerking functions for a juvenile court referee both during and after hearings. Receives task direction related to clerk functions from the assigned referee, direct supervisors, and the Juvenile Court Support Clerk Senior assigned to the juvenile intake office.
Utilizes current countywide and/or department specific software to complete assignments.
Additional Duties & Responsibilities
Assists the Juvenile Court Support Clerks Senior as required in answering less complex questions from attorneys, adoption agencies and the public regarding adoption procedures and information on adoption cases.
Assists the Juvenile Court Support Clerks Senior in the typing of various orders (e.g., adoption, investigation, releases, etc.) and various petitions related to adoption proceedings.
