Must meet criminal history employment guidelines as provided by the Texas Juvenile Justice Department, pass required government background and criminal history checks and be eligible for certification in 180 days from hire. Provides direct supervision of juveniles placed on probation (formal or informal). Compile detailed social investigations on all referrals. Make appropriate detention and disposition recommendations. Participate in case and department staff meetings. Prepare detailed court letters for Judges’ consideration. Ensure accuracy of all court documents. Counsels with the juvenile and his/her parents or guardian in steps of juvenile justice process and expectations for successfully completing supervision. Explains rules of probation and oversees compliance. Documents in files and reports all rule violations to the Chief Juvenile Probation Officer. Makes appropriate referrals to address areas of need for each juvenile. Completes all related reports to the Juvenile Court, stay current with monthly data entry requirements and assist children and families to develop relevant case plan goals fostering improvement and progress. Shall meet state standards of monthly case planning. Maintains each case file and keeps all records up to date. Interfaces with various community agencies and school personnel, maintaining positive relationships with these organizations. Exercises no supervision of employees.
Will make office, home, school visits and curfew checks on a monthly basis. Will also keep contact with placement agencies and make visits as per standards. Will transport juveniles in custody when necessary to court hearings. Informs various community organizations of services available and maintains favorable public relations. Performs on-call duties as assigned. Be willing to relocate if necessary.
Observes and collects urinalysis sample from same gender probationers in accordance with probation orders, deferred agreements and intake procedures.
Supervises youth at community service projects. Maintains equipment and teaches youth how to properly use and maintain equipment. Directs youth on tasks to be completed. Acts as a positive role model to youth. Motivates youth and teaches good work habits. Develops projects by contacting agencies and community organizations. Maintains positive relationships with these agencies and organizations. Completes reports on youth performing community service hours.
Perform other related duties as assigned by the Chief Juvenile Probation Officer. These do not encompass all aspects or requirements of this position.
